The new Audi commercial....accurate?
Audi guy sees kids on a bench, giant puddle of water, slows and takes pride in taking the high road and being a nice guy.
Obvious grill shot of BMW in his rear view mirror, soaks the kids with the puddle. Seem about right? |
Sad but true

link to the video?

The Audi behavior may be unrealistic.

To me, this is marketing at its worst. What I mean is that they don't say anything about the cars - its all about how you will be perceived, i.e., BMW drivers are jerks and Audi owners are the nice, caring types.
The car doesn't make the person. Jerks are generally jerks no matter what car they drive and nice people are generally nice no matter what car they drive. |

I think they got the BMW part right. I don't, however, believe Audi drivers can claim a higher moral ground.

Dumb. Not well done.
I very nearly was in a head-on collision today with a 911 in a PARKING LOT. Me going about 3 MPH heading towards the street when 911 comes into the lot at 40+ MPH expecting me not to be there and use my space as his lane. Thank God for Porsche brakes. I can only imagine the stories the cops would have told had we wrecked. Icing is 911 guy gives me the stink eye like it's all my fault. Porsche...errrr....911...drivers are all dicks. ;) |

What do companies want from their ads? People to talk about it and generate 'buzz'. Well - us talking about it goes to show it was a good ad!
Besides - they aren't just selling a car. They are selling a lifestyle. Great ad. |
Oh sure, it's accurate. When we owned our A4 (ours was a piece of s**t; nothing but problems), we were little angels, and when we traded it for the 325xi (great car), we started trying to hit dogs and splash kids .
Actually, I watched that video 4 times, and I have no idea how anyone could tell that was a BMW, and as I said, we own one . Really lame commercial! Doesn't make me want to buy an Audi at all... |

Guess w/ a BMW and 911 in the garage, one wouldn't stand a chance not living the stereotype...
 |

Timco is right
That was clearly a E36 in the original ad. I also had a Audi at one time...great car until it started to go downhill....when it did I got rid of it in less than 3 months

Reminds me of when Honda wanted to separate themselves from the nasty bikers by saying, "You meet the nicest people on a Honda." Sorry, guys. I'll stick to my Road King.

Thanks how did you do that? |

Type in what you want to find, then copy the link. Easy, breezy. |
of all the German brands I find that BMW have the most varied owner profile.
Sometimes I see the preppy guy, other times the pimply faced spikey hair guy whose last car was low-riding Civic with the giant exhaust, other times it might be the Joey Bag-o-donuts guy (typically a white car with a ribbon on the dash) and sometimes the hip hop rapper guy with bling wheels aka 'rims'. Whereas the typical Audi driver seems to be the guy or gal who upgraded from a Subaru, has a little dog, hits the Starbucks every morning and shops at Whole Foods. A slightly younger version of the eventual new Porsche or Range Rover buyer. The you have the Bentley/Rolls driver. They're too rich to care how they look unless another rich guy comes along with a newer B/R car. |
I think it's a great commercial, I would hope most people could take it as a funny joke on BMW drivers.
I love when there is a guy talking to a girl beside my car. I always walk up and ask wow! That is a nice car you have! If they fall for the trap it can be an interesting five minutes before I pull the keys out and drive away :) |
I have a 300Ci as my "second" car, and I can assure you that I would not have driven through that puddle..
I would have found a different puddle with people in wheelchairs nearby and run through that one. ;) DBear |
Another thing that is interesting about that commercial is that it seems to alienate a large segment of car owners (BMW owners to be specific) who are pretty highly likely to cross shop an Audi when it comes time to look for a new car.
|
Can't stereotype cars. It just doesn't work. I had a 2001 Audi S4 Avant. I picked this one up in Munich in December 2011. Very nice highway car.
