Accessing the engine compartment is a relatively involved process best obtained from the owner's manual.
However, the basic steps are:
1. Lower top about 25% of the way.
2. Unhook the rear edge of the top (below the rear window) from it's mounting rail.
3. Unclip the two cables, one on each side of the top, from the inboard mounting, not from the top itself.
4. Fold the back of top up on itself and out of the way.
5. Remove the carpeted engine cover.
6. Remove the engine cover that is under the carpet.

I'm describing this from memory, so if I've made some grievous error, perhaps someone will correct me.

It would be a good idea to get an owner's manual if you do not have one. They are all over eBay, and avail. from dealers, too
