Interior update
 

I just picked this up in the mail today. I got a great deal on the wood horse shoe so I thought I would give it a shot. I know many don't like the wood trim, but here goes.

I'm not sure I like it and may have it covered in leather with stitching down the center or even painted blue to match the center console. I am also thinking of painting the overhead dome light console blue or having it covered in leather with a seam of stitching down the center. I will also be getting one of the dct wheels with the flat bottom, but that's probably in 6 months. I like the shifter and hand brake but any more wood and it seems like it's too much. I may end up just going back to gray and selling it, but I like changing things around every now and then.

Here is some of my inspiration if I paint the interior trim blue. What do you all think of the wood console?

I think the trims painted the car color looks best, like the blue pictured.

That said, my interior is dark and I like that more. I'd have to live with the grey interior to get a feel for the trim.

The wood looks good with the shifter and brake lever. I like the leather idea and painted to match the outside as well, so, sorry, not much help!

Has anyone wrapped their center console lid? I bought a spare lid and the $30 wrap from e bay. It came out pretty well except there didn't appear to be enough leather in the front and rear. I wish there was a little more material as i would have liked an inch all around.

I did the same mod with great results. From what I remember, there was enough leather but it was a pretty exact fit.

I think i needed to stretch the leather a little more. Also did you leave the padding as i did, but it seems a little tight against the trim piece behind it. After i wrap that piece i wonder if it will even open.

Yes, I left the old covering on. Mine opens and closes with no issues. I'm not sure what trim piece you are talking about. Here are a couple of pics of mine. You can see in the second picture that I was short a little bit of leather but it is secure. That is the only spot that wasn't perfect, but it is unnoticeable unless you open it and even then, in real life it is not noticble.

The 996 has a small piece of trim behind the lid about 1/3 the size of the lid. I need to order another piece of leather to cover it too.

After driving around with the wood horse shoe i decided its gotta go. So i put in an order for a blue one. If anyone wants the wood one let me know I'm looking for $100 shipped. I don't believe it fits cars older than 03.

That's right, I forgot you don't have a firewall there!

I am looking at the pics of your blue painted interior. Looks like the horizontal bars on the dash, below the passenger airbag and runs across the dash is also painted. were you able to get those off to paint them? if so care to share how you got them off? I am in the process of painting my black plastic interior arctic silver to match the exterior and would like to paint those trim bars but don't want to break anything.

You have to get up underneath/behind the dash. There are like 10,000 little hex screws for the longer strip under the passenger airbag, and just two hex screws per each smaller piece on either side of the wheel. good luck!

I found a couple of threads on this. I will give it a try when I have the patience! Need to get a long flexible driver for the torx head.
