What is this part for?

Can someone tell me what this is for? So far, I've used it as an iPad holder, but it must have some other purpose?http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1406415973.jpg

Owners manual, but I like your idea better ;)

DG Boxster 07-26-2014 03:28 PM

WOW! It does fit in there, thanks!

Weird that it's just kind of hanging out there. Do you guys actually drive around with the manual in there?

kjc2050 07-26-2014 03:48 PM

I took mine off - the manual wouldn't fit. Manual rides in the storage cubby behind the seats.

DG Boxster 07-26-2014 04:24 PM

Fits like a glove!

But I don't like having the manual rattling around in there.

Maybe I'll keep the manual in the zipped box over the engine and leave this for the iPad.

Porsche didn't put a normal "glove box" on the passenger side until late in the 986 run, model year 2003. The bracket was put there for the owner's manual, state registration cert., etc.

Thanks this was in the trunk of my car when I bought it and I couldn't figure out what it was.

It's so funny, I was going through my frunk and saw this today and had the same question, I was going to take a picture and post it later. Would never have guessed myself!!

I took the manuals out of the case and they now reside on the bookshelf in the house. I put my essential drivers docs in the case, registration, insurance, tire warranty, battery warranty etc.

Because of this thread, I ordered FREE maps from AAA, relevent for my half of the country and placed them in here. Perhaps I'll use it when armageddon hits and GPS goes down.

The pocket was too small for my manual folder. That resides in the rear parcel shelf on my '98.

Really small pizza

It's made to hold your documents (owners manual, maintenance schedule, radio manual, etc) in a black leatherette Porsche case.

Do you know that ...

... you are missing the clutch pedal rubber piece?
That's a slippery pedal, being made of hard plastic.
Happy Boxstering,
