Plastic Piece Around The Key Insert(Interoir)
Does anyone know the part number of the plastic trim piece around the key whole? My dad is not used to the left hand ignition and has scratched it to the point where I want to replace it. Does anyone know how to remove it?

Paint it to match your exterior!

Blink, Bumperplugs does a painted Ignition Rosette for $89. They have your color.

Here are the steps to replace the ignition switch, this should help you:
"What you will have to do on either a Boxster or 996 is to remove the instrument cluster first. This is done by removing the two screws that are behind the hazard switch and the microphone cover to the left. Once the cluster is removed and unplugged, set it aside. Now at this point you will find two screws that are on top of this lower section holding it in place. Remove both of the screws and then pop the piece away from its lower securing pins and then fully remove. The lower pins are part of this piece and it allows the bottom of it to snap into the dash. After this is removed you will see the bolt that holds the lock assemble in place, remove this bolt. The left side vent assemble also has to be removed. This is required so that you can access and remove a screw on this side. The next step is to remove the actual key tumblers. To do this rotate the key to position 1 and insert a paper clip that has been stretched out into the hole firmly. Now pull the key assembly with the paperclip out as one unit. Unplug all electrical connections and remove the lock assemble. Scott Slauson - PCA WebSite - 8/10/2005" |
The part number for the ignition is 996 347 017 07. I don't know if this includes the rosette, though, sorry.

If you mean just the trim piece......just pull! It simply slides out.
|
I would paint it.
|
I see them on ebay all the time. Usually in arctic silver for about $20.

WOW sounds like too much work for too little of a problem, although if it bothers me enough masking surrounding areas off and painting may be a option. It would look nice with my painted center console.
|
Actually the ignition trim surround will just slide right out. It is held in by friction i suppose. I've considered buying the painted one also.
