Back in my Miata days, I would wave at just about anything (especially when the top was down). Other Miatas, other convertibles with the top down, cool cars, people on the sidewalk, people on passing trains, etc.

So naturally I started doing the same in the Boxster. I wave at other Porsches (any style), corvettes, cool cars, and any convertible. I'm getting around 50% return waves from Porches, about 10% from the others.

Funny story, as I told my wife. "I waved at a corvette today." She asked "Did they wave back?" "I don't know. I was going too fast when I passed him!"

Many 911's flash me. Every 986. Don't see many 987 around. I try to flash Porsche sports cars but not Pana or Cayanne.

There are 2 Panamera's here in town. They both flash and wave. Both are older guys with younger wives.

One of them even parked next to me at the steakhouse a few weeks ago.

I think they have Boxster envy!

Yes. I agree. If I was flashed I certainly reply. They spent a ton of cash and still don't have a real, 2- seater "real" Porsche. People I meet really like the small size.

I recall back in the late seventies, I bought my first Porsche...a 914 2.0. One of my early mods was to install an electronic device which would allow me to flash my foglights to other Porsche owners...it really was a brotherhood back then. Now, when you flash or wave, they look at you like WTF? Too many soccer moms driving Cayennes...not that I want to wave to them anyway.

I know we have to wave to all Boxsters when we see them on the road, but do we have to wave to all Porsches? Even SUVs?

When there is a Porsche on the side of the road with its hazzard lights on, I stop for them unless I'm in a super big hurry... I sometimes stop for other German cars too.

I would have moved my car

Last month, some old dude pulled up next to me at a red light in one of those Ferrari station wagons and said "Nice car dude!"... I looked his car up and down for a few seconds while he waited in anticipation for my response... Sadly, I couldn't say the same back and as our eyes met, his smile faded. It was truly an awkward moment and I did what I had to do which was drive off and say nothing.

One of the reasons we moved from a Corvette to a Boxster was the fact there just aren't a lot of P-cars out here. When I see one, I wave. The response rate is pretty low. Got snubbed by a 911 last week and a newer Boxster this week. I've only seen 2 other 986's and that was when i was in the DD.

Since I got my Boxster a month ago, I've met one other driving the opposite direction. We both waved. I flashed my lights at a 911 a few days ago. No response. Might be that driver's reflexes just weren't quick enough. I've only seen a total of four Porsches in the past 30 days. They're not very common around here. Corvettes are way more popular.

I only see other Porsches when I drive my Challenger, so I don't wave ...

I only see other Challengers when I drive my Boxster, so I don't wave ...

I seem to be really out of sync with my driving brethren

I had a nice, brief chat with another 986 owner at a stop light. He didn't know why my calipers were not red.. Other than that, I've only seen one other around town. I waved at her, and she looked confused.

Cool. I am 1 month into my Porsche ownership, I had no idea of the wave. I ride motorcycle, so I am well familiar with the motorcycle wave. I always wave to motorcycles. Cool that I can now wave to Porsche.
