Think this will work as a canvas top dressing?

Came across this and it looks like it might work. Looks like its a lot cheaper and less messier to apply than Ragg Top or 303.

I bought a few cans of the Porsche-labeled canvas protectant a while ago on the cheap. Yesterday I picked up a bottle of the 303 cleaner and it made my roof look very new. However, I wouldn't rush to use wax on the convertible as it may look less fitting on a car than on a pair of jeans.

I'm going to say no way on both accounts as RaggTopp is easily < $40 on fleabay (w/ the cleaner) whereas wax supplies are ~ $15 (per article) and no way it's less messy. Let alone time factor but... to each there own I suppose.

good luck...

Rag Top

When I first got my Boxster 14 months ago I purchased the Rag Top kit with cleaner and treatment. I followed the directions exactly. The treatment did not seem to hold up very long, after a couple of months water stopped beading on the top. I then went to Nanodyze product...water still beads a year later

If you want cheap and effective many of us in the UK use Fabsil which is a tent waterproofer.

I used the Aerospace protectorant convertible top cleaner and sealer
same company as 303
great stuff

easy to use and worked great

no it won't work. In order to keep a canvas top looking new you have to be able to clean it with the correct cleansing agent. Otherwise dirt gets into the fibers and each time you stretch the canvas from opening and lowering the top you end up with wear marks, eventually that rips, just like a pair of jeans. The Raggtopp cleanser is not meant to be a permanent sealant for precisely this reason, to allow for easy cleaning of the top, down to the fiber.
Unfortunately each time you get a bird bomb, road grit and grime on the top you have to rinse and repeat the whole process. But that's how it goes with canvas. If you want to be skip the hassle of cleaning fabric then a vinyl top would have been the way to go but those end up looking a little generic and cheap after a few seasons in the summer and some of those spots/stains just never come out of vinyl. Think of the top as a tuxedo for your Porsche.

303 is easy to brush on with a cheap, throw away foam brush.

I'm satisfied in Ragg Top.

Did a bit of research and found this product is using Nano Repellant technology in a water based carrier, making it safe for application on most anything.

Once it has dried the Nano molecule barrier is in place and it prevents adhesion of dirt, droppings, etc and is a fantastic liquid repellant including oils, water, acid etc.

O.K..... So after reading this thread I ordered a kit of RaggTop. Got a confirmation of order the next day, then nothing......for 2 weeks. I sent an email inquiring as to order status. No reply. A week later I sent an email asking for advise on ship date. No reply. I was really p.o. so I cancelled my order and ordered the Nanodyze. Received it in 3 days . It rained for 3 weekends so I finally got it applied this past Saturday. Followed the directions, let it sit in the sun and wind for 3 hours. Felt really dry. Went to car wash and spayed it down, water soaked right into top just like before. Doesn't leak, it just doesn't bead up. What did i do wrong? Other suggestions?

Pdwight 10-24-2016 06:53 PM

I am not sure

This is exactly what I do each year at this time....I am still on my original bottle from almost 4 years ago. ??

BruceH 10-24-2016 07:18 PM

The top has a rubber membrane so the canvas does not need to be waterproof or bead up. With that said, I use 303 Protectant and my top beads up nicely!

rockstar68 10-26-2016 06:47 PM

can I buy 303 just anywhere or is it a special order item?

BruceH 10-26-2016 07:37 PM

I bought mine at AutoGeek.com It is best to brush it on, I use a cheap brush from Harbor Freight and pour the 303 into a plastic cup. Clean your top first, let it dry, then brush on the 303, very easy.

This is exactly what I have done for the past 8 years, and the black roof on my Box looks like new.

Last year when i picked up a 03 top that looked like it was stored in a barn for a number of years, I cleaned it with 303 tonneau & convertible top cleaner, then rolled on with a foam roller the 303 fabric guard. Top looked new again. When I wash the car I just hit it with the hose and the water beads right up.

Raggtop makes mine look new. Sticking with it.
