05 Boxster is a goner

Well, driving on the access road yesterday a Yukon pull out in both lanes. Hit the horn hoping she would correct herself but she didn't. Brace yourself, these pics are ugly! Me and my princess are all safe.

Timco 07-07-2014 04:43 PM

Wow. Sorry to see that. Glad you're both ok.

What was it like when airbags deployed? Car get tossed around?

You know, in Cyprus they fix them worse than that......

Lol... But to op I am glad you are safe, I find it odd that so many forum members have had their boxsters in accidents, so many cars that I pull up a car fax on, have had accidents, it seems to be nearly 50%, now maybe it is the cars age, but I feel that luck is against these boxsters, the occupants are very often safe and the fault is usually the other party, it is simply odd how often these vehicles get hit.

Jamesp 07-07-2014 05:01 PM

Glad to hear everyone is ok - the most important thing. Sorry about losing the car, it was beautiful. Really glad it turned out as well as it did. The best of the worst.

Now my Box has been acting up lately, and if anybody can just send me some coin, say a cool ten grand just to get it up and runnin again I'd be oh, so thankful. How about you Timco? You feeling generous? :p

Chuck W. 07-07-2014 05:10 PM

WOW.... glad you guys walked away from it. What a shame.

Pdwight 07-07-2014 05:11 PM

Terrible

I am so sorry, happy you guys are OK.......SOunds like you got hit by "Stupid Gone to Seed" as we say here in the south

Dwight

PS these little cars seem to be built very solid

BruceH 07-07-2014 05:32 PM

Just glad you guys are ok Randy! Really sorry to hear, you had a beautiful car and an upgraded IMS! Maybe you can upgrade a little bit. Again, really sorry to see.

azboxsterguy 07-07-2014 05:51 PM

Did she have insurance?

Tucker2 07-07-2014 06:00 PM

What exactly happened in the accident? You have both front corners gone, driver's side is a mess....but the front of your bumper is fine?? That is a weird one.

Glad you guys are OK. It's looks bad.

Deserion 07-07-2014 06:10 PM

Oooooff. That's a hell of a hit. :( Sorry to hear that man.

thstone 07-07-2014 07:59 PM

Glad to hear that everyone is ok. That's all that really matters.

Air bags went off when we hit that pile of concrete slab. Wasnt going that fast especially at that point. Good question though Timco. When the air bags went off, it blew my watch off and created a slight flesh wound on my wrist. Airbag smell was very weird. After they went off, I asked my daughter if she was ok. She said yes and I told her hurry up unbuckle and we ran from the car.

This was a three lane road but with construction its now two. Guard rail on the right and left. She pull out in both lanes. I was coming down blew the horn cause i saw it coming. Looked like we clipped front tires. Bounced off her car, bounced off the guard rail, car veered to the right jumped the curve, ran through the grass, miss the light poles hit another set of curbs and stoped at the spot in the picture.

rp17 07-07-2014 09:37 PM

Thanks everybody for the best wishes. Yesterday was happy to walk away. This could of been real bad. Today, I'm so pissed!!!!!! That car can't possible be repairable. All air bags went off. Only thing my car needed was a AOS. 50k miles and some change. Everything else was done. Oh well......

Flavor 987S 07-08-2014 05:59 AM

Glad you and your daughter are OK. The car did its job. Take the insurance money and get a 981. Best Boxster ever.

I know exactly how you feel! (http://986forum.com/forums/general-discussions/43878-ahhh-my-car-hit-bad-today.html)

That is a lot of expensive damage. Sorry to say this but the car is most likely a total loss.

When the dust cleared from when my car was totaled I saw it as an opportunity to "start over" but with a lot more knowledge and experience about Porsche ownership. This, in turn, led me in a couple of different directions (996 daily driver and 986 race car) which I probably would not have done had nothing ever happened to the 986.

Take some time and think it through and you'll figure out where to go next.

Miata2Boxster 07-08-2014 07:25 AM

A very sad image but at least you walked away from it. Yes, I would be pissed too!. I hope you get another that you enjoy even more than this one.

best wishes

Bust out the receipts, as long as you dont let them walk all over you, insurance knows these cars can be hard to replace. At the least you should be able to get a fairly even car.

"missed the light pole"....

Man forget the car, once a car is out of control all bets are off.

brace for insurance hassle. I would be pushing hard "what date can I expect payment, your insured driver is VERY lucky we not injured..".

jb92563 07-08-2014 12:34 PM

Glad to hear you made it out safe.

Even a disaster like this is an opportunity for new options and the benefit of your experiences.

I would have said that some performance driving training might have helped but with a Yukon into both lanes on a 2 lane with guard rails on both sides there really are not any good options.

They did teach this scenario though on wet soapy pavement at 50 mph but one lane was clear for the escape route after an aggressive avoidance maneuver.

The Radium King 07-08-2014 12:38 PM

lemonade from lemons - engine/tranny should still be good - buy the car back from the insurance company, use some of the insurance money to buy a roller with blown engine, do the swap and have as good or better a car with money in pocket!

Pdwight 07-08-2014 12:46 PM

Ims

I see you had gotten the IMS upgrade, was your a 3.2 ?

I have been quoted as high a 5 grand for this upgrade...make sure you do not let the cost of this get watered down

Receipts receipts receipts, my car had a glass rear window, while they would not pay in full for me to do the add on again, it did make them much more willing to accept a price based on my comparable: and not theirs.

Ain't that the truth. Told them about ALL the work done to this car in the past 6 months. They seemed cool with if it gets totaled which it prob would.

S model, sports chrono, bose with subwoofer, xenon headlights, windstop, clear side markers, fab race exhaust, chrome tips, new battery, clutch, water pump, rms and ims replaced......anythjng else to add to the list? This is going go be hard to replace. Wish me luck. ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!

Be careful with exhuast and non reliability upgrades, sometimes they will argue that they were giving you the price of insuring a factory car with factory performance and parts. Any options are a go, and the ims and maintenance stuff is a go, however be careful when mentioning exhaust or anything.

Yeah if she had picked a lane, I could of manuevered. These cars handle well as you already know. Should of just slammed on the brakes. They have save me many times before. This is not the first time someone pulled out in front of me. Thought she would of corrected herself. :(

Yes bearing was upgraded and the RMS. And it is a 3.2. Got it done at the dealership also. Oil filters are still in the garage. Just did the oil 200 or 300 miles ago. I don't want to let that engine go to waste or fall with the unknowns.

That sounds good. But not too many other Boxsters out there with the Sports Chrono. But I like my engine at 50k better than someone else's I don't know. How do you find a roller? Don't recall looking that hard since I was, very happy with my car.

The Radium King 07-08-2014 08:27 PM

check with jake raby - he has his finger on the pulse of dead boxsters. a month or two ago he had a 2006 cayman roller but dunno if it's still available.

If they are not paying for this, then I will gladly take it off and they can have the factory muffler. Pic taken the night before thanksgiving. Thanks for mentioning this though.

Thanks. Would like to hear his input.

Jake Raby 07-10-2014 09:20 PM

The Cayman is no longer a roller, its now a Raby 4.0 powered beast thats for sale.

I have 14 watercooled Porsches available, all broken engines and all perfect opportunities to be outfitted with a Raby engine.
One of those is a 60K mile 2005 base Boxster thats in perfect condition- only with a broken heart.
