Does your 986 smoke i the morning.

Every morning when I start my 2001 base it spews out smoke .....looks like the bat mobile in hot pursuit for a few moments....then it is fine the rest of the day. Is this characteristic of 986 Boxsters?

thanks

No, not normal.

That is more characteristic of a Boxster whose air-oil separator is preparing to fail.

SoCalBlackbox 07-04-2014 08:59 AM

Mine does not. It's a 2000 base.

Perhaps I have a slow gas drip from my fuel injectors. It accumulates in the morning, is burned off then is fine during stops and starts the remainder of the day.

No and your last post describes a failing AOS.

OK, interesting, makes more sense..I'll check into it. thanks

Sounds more like you are not bringing the car up to running temp before you park it. Have you been?

Sometimes, I'll see if that makes a difference. Thanks!

If it's had morning sex, then yes, she smokes.

I digress. Apologies.

Serious note: Yes...clear sign of AOS. Try this....while running, take the oil fill cap off and place your hand over the opening. If there is a very strong pull, that is another sign of a failing AOS. A working AOS should have a very mild/gentle pull.

This. On a damp or cool morning maybe white smoke. After an oil change if a bit high and some spirited driving, a bit o smoke. New AOS helped.

BIGJake111 07-05-2014 08:53 PM

My old boxster did, and it had a new AOS also, my new car does not though? So ummm yeah it is odd, but i do not think it is AOS as the old car had the AOS done within the last 4k miles.

A few seconds white smoke on start up = the so called "Boxster fart" (nothing to worry about, if it only happens occasionally)

Gute Fahrt! :D

steved0x 07-06-2014 06:56 AM

If I drive mine only a very short distance, like into the driveway to wash it and then back to the garage I may get a little puff on startup. Otherwise I get none.

Mine has done it a couple of times when it wasn't sitting on level ground.

I find if I let the car idle for a minute or two after a spirited ride , I don't get smoke the next day and I also have a new AOS .

Pdwight 07-06-2014 09:37 PM

No

I have had my Boxster 14 months and it has smoked 3 or 4 times in that entire time. As a rule it never smokes on startup. I hate the way they sound on startup however...like a worn out 70's era motorcycle...but every Porsche I have ever heard sounds that way.
