Short Throw Shifter
 

I am considering a switch to a short throw shifter. Any recommendations?

I love mine.

997 shifter. Shorter throws (but not extreme), Porsche quality, easy install, reasonable price ($249).

I have a B&K and no problems here..love it; the standard shifter is soooo long. Missed shifts are by those who think that fast is better, not precise. I drive a 915 tranny in my 911, so I know shifting is a two step process.

I have a Numeric shifter & cables en route. While doing my homework on the shifters out there their was a ton of opinions. Most that have short shifters are huge fans. There are down sides such as having to use more force when shifting. One opinion that repeated itself was that with the SSK one could shift faster than the sycros could react thus causing wear. The other opinion was it was easier to miss a shift and over rev the engine.

After reading everything I plan on having the Numeric set on the highest (longest) shift setting.

I love mine, but it took a long time to get used to, and at the track it sometimes makes downshifting difficult for me. I kind of wish I didn't have it now and then.

It's also a bear for anyone else driving my car and they have a difficult time getting the hang of it.

Bingo Randall. Exactly how I feel about my B&M SSK. Really accentuates the stiffness in cold shifting as well. Once the tranny is warm, shifts well, but feels more "notchy" than stock. I am still in the "getting used to it" phase, but do like it alot. I also added the Rennline knob, which i really like the look/feel of as well (see: Rennline Aluminum Shift Knob - Porsche-Rennline, Inc.)

Installation was time consuming but straight-forward. The B&M instructions were WAY better than the ones on Pelican, BTW...

It took some time for me to get use to it as well - it was not love at first use. I would occasionally get hung up going into 3rd gear from 2nd...hitting the space between 1st and 3rd. But after a while you get use to it and I enjoy having it!

Dude - that is fantastic!!

+1 on the 997 shifter. It was a huge improvement in my 03 base, and made me stop wishing for the shifter in my old Miata.
