I was surprised how clean my engine was
 

I'm in the process of doing the 60K service, so I had to open up the engine compartment. Its a slight PITA, but fairly easy, maybe 5 min.
What surprised me was how clean the engine was.

No, its not concourse quality, but I don't believe the engine was ever cleaned and for 60K on the clock, it is really clean. Just a little dust and light dirt. Ran my fingers over the intakes and there was barely any dirt.

Is this normal? I have looked at other engines on my other cars and don't recall seeing one this clean at 60K

No, your very clean engine is not normal. I think it has a lot to do with the fact that you live in a nice cool sunny place where it doesn't rain a lot.

I hate you, by the way. <--- jealousy... I live in Sauna City... home of heat, humidity, and lots of rain!!!

At 38k when I first saw mine, it was pretty much brown in color. It's been inside it's whole life, but I live in the dust bowl.

I know it sucks to live in sunny So Cal. We do pay for it in cost of living :ah:

I always say the easiest job in the world is a weather forecaster in San Diego.
You could be locked in a windowless closet and forecast 72 degrees, clear sky's and sunny and you would be correct 85% of the time

Mine was similar the first time I opened it.
Just a light layer of dust. No grime or oil seepage anywhere that I could see.

I pulled the front cover for the first time a couple of months ago while attempting to repair my secondary air injection fault and found that things looked just as nice from that angle ;)

garage kept in SoCal, no extreme weather. Not surprising.

Hence why SoCal cars are the first you should buy when Porsche shopping.
But maybe not too close to the beach.

How did you know it hadn't been cleaned before you bought it?

It had always been serviced at the local P dealer.
After I bought it, I went over all the service they had done and had them fill out and stamp an office Porsche service book.

The car had every service done as recommended including brake fluid flushes
