winter Washing your car without a hose
saw this tip recently thought I'd share it.
People use these pesticide sprayers to clean off their wheels before a lap but they are also good for washing your car in winter!! Go down to Lowe's and you can pick up one of these 1 gallon pesticide sprayers for $10. http://images.lowes.com/product/0238...d=158&cvt=jpeg Add 1 ounce of Optimum No-Rinse car wash solution to the gallon of water or use a bucket for your Optimum No-Rinse and use the sprayer for pre-soak rinse. After a few passess on each side of the wash sponge I like to dunk it in the bucket and wring out the dirt. http://us.st11.yimg.com/store1.yimg....k_1887_9563726 http://www.autogeek.net/optimum-no-rinse.html The Optimum No-Rinse is designed to work like those no-scrub bathroom tile soaps. The No-Rinse encapsulates dirt and grit and allows it to slide off the paint, no need for a final spray rinse, finish up with a few quick passes of a MF towel soaked in the No-Rinse solution. I use a sea sponge which reduces marring and scratching. In your bucket the No-Rinse drags the sediments to the bottom of the bucket leaving clean wash water for your sponge at the top of the bucket. Or you can use this as a quick detailer/cleaner with a 32ounce spray bottle. A good idea to clean off your paint before spraying your preffered quick detailer. Also works well for claying. http://lib.store.yahoo.net/lib/autogeek/optcollage1.jpg Also good to buy is a grit guard for your two buckets. Keeps your sea sponge or Chennile sponge seperated from the sediments at the bottom of the bucket. |
...or alternatively, you could just use a hose.

if its not 20 degrees! :D

However, I'll certainly tip my hat to anyone willing to wash their car when it's 20 degrees outside.
 |
Sorry - it's just part of my personality
Back on subject - is that product available off the shelf at any of the major car parts places? ...and what happens if you rinse? Does the rinse water sheet off so that drying time is minimized? |
Who gives a crap about this? :D
It's 70 degrees, sunny and I'm driving around with the top down in Houston. We never have freezing temps that prevent me from washing my cars. I think you people living in the frozen wastelands of the north need to move to a warmer place. But don't move here. 1) too many people here already. 2) hot as hades 4 months out of the year and top should not be down unless you need to burn and sweat off ten pounds on the way to or from work. |

This is when a good high-quality pair of rubber gloves (the blue ones) are worth their weight in gold. Even in warm weather climates! Don't want dish-pan-hands! :D |
---runs to Target to buy rubber gloves.

Actually, it snowed last week and this week it's been in the 70's. Got the top down right now. But seriously, don't move here either. |
Cold weather scares me!
|
here it is 0 to -3 celsius at present which is in farenheit...no bloody idea but it is damn cold, and if it is not cold it pisses rain every second day which means that my box is basically in a constant mud bath, good for the skin but hard for my wheels.
see ya |
by the way, this No-Rinse is good to add to your usual car wash soap. Softens the water, reduces swirling and keeps the water in your wash bucket clean so that you don't throw the grit back onto your car.
