Best Mods for Power?

Here's the deal, I am having a big repair done to my 2000 Boxster S, it includes taking the engine and probably tranny out of the car. While it is out I'm thinking, this could be a good time to add something to the engine since its already dissected and out of the car. With that being said what mods could be more easily done now that the engine is out. I know there's going to be a big question on how much hp I want, but I'm just looking and shopping around right now. I would LIKE to get to 300hp or above, but that's only if wallet permits. Let me know of any good ideas or mods that could be done with the engine out. Thanks guys, and drive on!

You need to tell us how much is in your budget. No way to tell you what to do unless we know what you / we can spend. It's possible to do your 300 or better but is it worth it is the question.

You obviously have some very sticky tires if they can hold that incline.

The only things that add power that are much easier to install while the engine is out is installing the 987 Cayman airbox & internal engine modifications. 1st is removing the heads for a quality valve job & replacing the VarioCam chain wear pads on each head. Beyond that the only thing to do is install larger pistons & cylinder sleeves. Any other "mod" won't do much but can be installed with the engine installed.

Best mod for power is using that money to buy a faster Porsche.

To add enough power to the 3.2 so that it significantly changes the nature of the car, (like it feels like you're in a totally different car) you'll have to spend more than you (probably) paid for the car to begin with. Which is probably a 1/3 of the way towards a 996 GT3 (best Porsche bang for the buck, air-cooled or water cooled).
In fact it would be better for you to buy a 2.5 Boxster, strip out the interior, add aftermarket exhaust, lighter wheels, brakes,Optima battery, UDP,etc. then you're near Spec Boxster lap times without the Spec Boxster limitations on modifications ....at barely ~2,600 lbs. That car will fly.
In other words you should be rebuilding your 3.2 engine with an eye towards durability and not so much power unless you really step up the budget.

Well, you're in San Jose, which implies California. So the answer is "nothing" unless you want a dedicated track car that you tow. Put a UDP and an exhaust on and call it a day...

As another poster mentioned, a different (newer) boxster is your best bet to more HP.

300 hp is only possible with forced induction, displacement increase, or engine swap; $15k, $15k, or $15k. otherwise, do exhaust (doesn't need engine out) intake (987 airbox is easier with engine out) underdrive pulley (doesn't need engine out) and perhaps ecu flash. note that mods that increase hp through increased airflow (intake, exhaust) can affect torque at lower rpms.

What does all that add up to, King? maybe 20hp if lucky?

Can't agree more. I've done the UDP and test pipe which nets maybe 10 hp. The same money on my last car, a 2011 GTI, netted me 50 hp. Turbo cars and ECU tunes net cheap hp. If you want 300 hp and still have a Porsche your best option is a 996 otherwise as other have pointed out it get real expensive.
