Leave two toned or paint to match?

I realize that at the end of the day, the only thing that matters is what the one driving the car thinks, but, if this was your car and top, would you leave it two toned or would you paint the top to match the body?

I picked up the hardtop yesterday, and it was so hard for me to find one locally, that I didn't worry about the color match. Trying to decide if I want to spend the funds to paint it to match or not, especially considering the soft tops don't match the body color anyway.

Does it look totally stupid not matching?

Honest opinions please, you won't make me mad by saying it looks bad.

It doesn't look that bad because the top kinda match the rims but if it was me I would either go with a matching top or completely different top color. I love the color btw, is it seal grey?

Add a light colored Porsche stripe on the side. Great looking 986

I like the two-tone, it adds visual interest. Monochrome (to me) is boring.

You should photoshop the top to match the car color and see what you think. To me it *almost* works, but I'm boring so I'd paint it to match.

Wonder what black plastidip would look like? Also, add some spacers to those beautiful rims (the only wheels I sometimes kick myself for selling)!!!

I'm technically deficient, can anyone here photoshop it to match?

My monitor might not be so great. Is the hard top white or light silver?

Body is seal grey, top is arctic silver

I would not bother. I mean if I had to pick where to use the money due to limited amount of funds, painting the top would be my last choice. Not sure what your plan is regarding driving it with the top. In my case I love the convertible but as I am in Canada when it gets colder the hard top would be the way to go but only for a couple months. So in my case I would not bother.
As others mentioned PlastiDip is a great alternative to paint and will cost you very little. Why not try that?

It is not too bad, but with that said, I think I would have to paint it.

Here we go: Matching top or black top. I think both would look good.

I would consider getting it wrapped in a vinyl film like

3m 1080 or Avery SW900. There is a multitude of colors, textures (carbon fiber, brushed steel, etc.) you could personalize it with and it would probably be cheaper than having it painted, reversible, and look better than plastidip.

I think it looks cool.

I agree. Looks OK, but color match would look better.

Bump on spacers, and polish those headlights!

2003S 05-23-2014 04:40 AM

Looks fine. I might be tempted to Plasti-dip it black just for a change -- I think that looks a little better, but honestly, it's pretty decent the way it is. Nice looking car.

Mark_T 05-23-2014 07:46 AM

If it was white I would perhaps leave it, but two different shades of grey/silver would not look good to me. I'd paint, especially after seeing the photoshopped picture above. Definitely do not like the black.

ルーカス 05-23-2014 07:57 AM

I agree with 2003S, if you're thinking about painting why not plastidip? How about plastidipping the whole car? It will protect your original paint and IMO it looks pretty bad ass!

Mind that you can do just about any color that you want! And getting a whole car done runs around $650!

Coaster 05-23-2014 07:58 AM

I like the black a lot, of course my car is seal grey with a black top - LOL.
