99 box 4k

Craigslist Jax Fl. has a 99 for 4000 engine trouble. Hmmmm wonder what trouble?

Could be an easy fix, could be a hard one. Someone local should hop onto it and see if their is money to be made, any links?

Question is do you feel lucky....with a roller value of around $2K, would be a $2K gamble with a ???? upside

Just a reminder: When buying a rolling chassis (typically blown engine AND usually the battery is dead too) remember to take into account all of the things that you can't check without a running engine or electrical power: battery, climate controller, lights, cluster, a/c, windows, top motor, emissions system, rads and cooling system, power steering, suspension, ECU, immobilizer, etc.

I learned this lesson the hard way when I found that the rolling chassis that I bought for my Spec Race car needed about $800 in work to the SAI and fuel vent systems to get it running right. Clearly the car had multiple CEL's that the owner ignored until the engine finally quit running. For whatever reason, the owner "forgot" to disclose these issues to me when I bought the rolling chassis. And it was a couple of months later when we finally got the engine swap complete when I found these problems and by then, there wasn't much I could do except to repair them at my cost.

Hence, assume that something else is also wrong with a rolling chassis (other than the engine and battery) and you won't be dissappointed.

I agree totally, esp with cars such as these, it having the the engine trouble maybe the straw that broke the camels back. There is most like plenty of other hidden issues not disclosed or forgotten about because the owner just learn to live with the issues. Always assume the worst and check what you can to solidify condition.

Reread this thread about what goes wrong to remind you of the common issues.

I've had several of these cars and if you are thinking buying to resell... well you better already have a parts car to donate the parts and willing to sacrifice your time.

Remember to check the registration and see if there are back fees.

Get a check list beforehand as it is too easy to get emotionally involved with the car when you are there.

Oh another reminder...

Theses cars are a hard sale. the majority of the cars you see asking near retail price, have been for sale for months!!!
