Steering wheel noise??
I have a 2003 S with 25,000 miles. There is a intermittent metallic clicking noise coming from behind the steering wheel while turning right or left. The noise happens most often when car has been sitting in the sun. There was a repair to the wheel, the previous owner had the turn signal switch replaced.
Can any one give me a clue as to what may be the problem before I take it in for a check (or write a check)? |
My guess is that sitting in the sun heats up the innards of the wheel and something is rubbing.
If you want to take a stab at the problem, try this: 1. Get the wheel good and hot so it's a clicking real good. 2. Disconnect the negative battery terminal. 3. Drink a beer while you examine your frunk and battery area. 4. Use a torx driver to loosen the screws behind the wheel, which releases the airbag. 5. With the key in the ignition to the Accessories position, you can turn the wheel and see what might be clicking. I'm betting it's something very simple that you can fix yourself. I feel your frustration. I hate squeaks, rattles, clicks, clunks, and so forth and I have a half dozen of them on my much older boxster. |
