Holy !@#$% $166 to mount 4 tires? I was hoping I found a new shop but I think not.
 

Am I way out of line to think it should be cheaper? it is a road force balance, but I took the wheels and tires there and am picking up the old tires so they don't have to do any vehicle lifting, lug bolts etc.

It would be worth it to me to drive the 40 minutes to one of these preferred tire rack installers to avoid that charge.

In this case it is my fault for not nailing down the quote more carefully ahead of time. They said it would be around 25-40 a wheel depending on the amount of weights needed (supposedly they are super expensive), and when they got done magically it was 40. I should have seen that coming :)

Is it just me? At tire kingdom it would have been $16 per wheel (but with traditional balance and not road force)

Seems a bit excessive to me, I just had gone to Firestone and had them RF balance all four tires which were on the car, so of course take off, balance and mount all for $44.00

My tire shop recommended by Tire Rack charged $95 to remove the old tires, mount and balance four new tires.

It appears they did a good job and the young guy that did the actual work was very helpful. They said for me to bring in the car once I get the wheels back on and they will check the suspension and alignment for me. If I do I will be sure to get a solid quote first :)

Generally with auto service I find that you may get expensive service, and you may get good service, but you will never get cheap service that is also good.

The last time I went to cheap place to mount tires they allowed one of my wheels to fall face down while it was leaning against the wall which resulted in scratches to a brand wheel.

Yikes! In my case it might improve the look of mine.

It was interesting, when I got there two guys came out to unload the wheels and new tires out of the back of my truck...

When I went to pick them up, after I paid, they all disappeared and I had to go in the shop and get them and load them myself :)

I should have helped myself to some of those super expensive stick on weights :)

I used tire kingdom's $9.95 vehicle readiness inspection for my last DE inspection. I was watching the guy and he popped the hood and looked around. Then he popped the trunk and looked around. At this point he exhibited a puzzled expression :)

Local tire shop charges $16/tire for walk-in service. Takes 45-60 mins.

Local indy repair shop charges $30/tire but I get an apt time with absolutely no waiting. Out in 20 mins tops.

You must have told them it was for a Porsche...

I have always put bridgestone on the rear until I thought it was to soon ....the last set barely 10k as well as the previous.My land rover bought used came with faulken tires. I put faulken on my 2500 and was happy with them. Just recently I have been doing some more aggresive wrenching on all my automobiles.This week it came time for tires on the box so I was investigating used high end with not much luck, but the guy at the used tire store said he had some new for 115 dollars in an hour. I took a chance and ordered them, took my wheels off drove to the hood, looked at them and told them to mount them.I asked how much to mount them? He says its included in the 115. The total was 254.66, 2 for new tire fee, 6 for scrap fee. Bridgestone is a much better cornering tire. HOWEVER, the less expensive tire much smoother in the city than other tires even when new, far easier on the wallet, look like hankook (lettering) and if the can make it more 10k miles even better. These same tires where I live at the bch. would be 150 at discount tire. The biggest plus is you have more money to fix everthing else that needs work. Oh the cheap tires had alot more weights. If the car is tracked naturally not a good tire, also speed rating is inferior.I am giving the box to my wife this summer so the tires are perfect. The whole point is Yes you are paying way to much to mount a tire that is for normal spirited driving.This is still a CAR not the Space Shuttle Not a collector car,Heck if my tires would fit, I am to the point of taking the darn thing in the car wash. Great car but IMO sometimes really stinks to own.

Steve that is about the same I pay my indy to get 'anything' worked out around my wheels mate. I voluntary sponsor about that $150 (normal price 50% cheaper) jussss to make sure they take their time. They are normally very busy and "hate" changing tires so that helps a little ;)

But then I wouldn't go to any place cheaper. To me they are the best pcar performance garage in-the-world!

Tire Rack charges $15/wheel at their Southbend, IN location. They do great work, use the proper weights, and don't make a mark on the wheels. I drive there whenever I can. Usually load the wheels up in my Explorer, and head out.

THAT is a great deal, I will definitely keep that in mind since work now takes me up that way every month or two.

I usually pay $65 cash to a guy I know who owns a tire shop for 4 mount and balances. Last winter I had purchased some pricey RUF wheels and paid one of Tire Rack's recommended installers $140 to dismount 4 almost new Potenzas from stock turbo twists and remount / balance them on the RUF's.

Went to NTB for 4 new tires, in addition to the tires I received One new chunk out of the front of one wheel and one large gouge out of the back of another.

Never going there again.

The GA tire rack warehouse is right on the way from me to RRR. The timing wasn't right but maybe if it is in the future I will go a day early and get them to put my new tires on.

My Independent specialist charged me $60 per wheel to mount and balance...but I can guarantee it was done to perfection.

I have learned to mount my own tires... daunting at first. but fun.

I've been to the TireRack Facility in Midway, GA and I'm pretty certain they didn't do mounting and balancing there. The Southbend facility is TireRack HQ and I think it's a special case.

I was at the Midway, GA TireRack warehouse to pick up tires for a family member's car and I was surprised at how expensive it is to get mounting and balancing done in that part of the world. I live in South Carolina and I usually use Discount Tire. They charged $15 per wheel/tire last time. Any issues I've heard with their work were rare and quickly addressed.
