Low RPM/Gear Engagement Squeak Noise
Hi y'all.
Another weird question here. Recently when coming to a stop and engaging the clutch with little to no gas I hear a squeaking noise until I accelerate. This weekend I plan on removing the engine cover for the first time to check the belt, bearings, and water pump for drained fluid through the weep hole, although I haven't had to top off the fluid. Any other suggestions, or ideas? It's like a weird squeaking noise until I give it a little gas or until I go. Happens on second gear to when rolling at a low RPM engagement. It also happens sometimes coming to a stop in neutral. It also doesn't happen when driving from a cold engine. It happens mostly when the engine is warmed up a few minutes later. I'm really suspecting the bearings and hopefully WD40 will help :) Also what type of belt would I need if that is the problem, although I don't see how it could make that type of noise at low RPM. Thank you for your patience and advice. It's a bit annoying to drive in stop and go Atlanta traffic constantly hearing that rhythmic eee-eee-eee noise 😂. Also, I replaces my AOS last year November and my car has about 76k. Thank you! |
Also noted is that I can replicate the noise again by putting my e brake on, and trying to engage the first gear at low rpm
Many thanks again. I'm quite the amateur mechanic. |
Does the sound occur if you just depress the clutch but do not engage first gear? Or do you have to press the clutch AND engage first gear?

I have to press the clutch and engage first gear! It happens only for a little bit until full engagement I'm really thinking belt, or belt tensioner, or even a bearing. Wd40 hopefully solves it? 😋 |
WD40 is not a lubricant. Just saying. ;)

WD = water dispersant
Sounds like a throw out bearing Nothing about pressing clutch pedal and/or moving gearshift is related to serpentine belt or the tensioners. |

Thanks. Maybe some Teflon instead :) |

Thanks! I'll look into it tomorrow. Sounds like an ims related problem potentially? Sorry my mechanics aren't great. Lots of research for me tomorrow 😎 |
Low RPM/Gear Engagement Squeak Noise
I don't get it. It doesn't happen for like 10-20 minutes of driving. But it squeaks on occasion when I'm on neutral slowing down or at a stop. I'm not in gear or anything. I rev it to make it temporary stop and sometimes it stops. Other times it continues.
But when I engage really low I can hear it squeaking until the clutch fully grabs. But it shouldn't be relative to the clutch if it happens on idle... The belt looks fine. Maybe I should replace it anyways? Thanks for the help. |
Did you ever find out what the problem was? I have the same issue.
New clutch New ims New aos New serpentine belt Mine also seems to sqeak or cherp a little when rolling in neutral over a bump. That will cause it to cherp. Im guessing a pulley but would like more concrete evidence. Mine also starts once the car warms up. If the rpms are high it goes away. |
