Weird Rattle

Hi guys...

Had anyone had this rattle before and if yes what was wrong?

The following video is not mine but it sounds like it... will be posting my car hopefully within the week.

Many thanks!

Yep, heard something very similar recently, it was the waterpump. Not to hard to find out. Move your seats forward, remove the panel to the front of the engine, take off the polyrib belt, stick your down to the waterpump pulley and give it a spin, listen for noise and see if you can wobble it.

Is this a mandatory job or can i live without it?

Cheers

It is mandatory. The water pump (if that is indeed the trouble) is what circulates coolant throughout the engine and cooling system. Not an optional part. Not an expensive one (relatively speaking) either.

Despite this, being the waterpump, the YouTube comments section suggest it may also be the flywheel. But yes unless you like an overheated boxster with no water pump, I would suggest replacing, most people do not see warning sings though and only replace it after being stranded by the car, take your early signs (if the WP is the problem) as a blessing.
