Opinions on Driving Gloves.
I am considering some leather driving gloves, and i dont even have Italian in my blood. It is a shame that one of the only cars i would consider wearing gloves in, has no glove box haha! Anyways anyone out their wear driving gloves. Please voice your opinions on how tacky or not it is haha I have yet to order.

Driving gloves
I wear driving gloves from time to time and yes they are soft Italian leather. It is mostly when driving top down in 40 to 60 degree weather. (Don't do this with a plastic rear window however. )

I would go all the way; gloves, scarf, driving hat and goggles. Sounds like winning combination ;)

I think welding gloves would also work well ,lol

My son and I both have a pair of these:
Pratt and Hart Traditional Leather Driving Gloves Size M Color Black at Amazon Men’s Clothing store I have worn them at one autocross and around town a few times. They feel great. That said I don't wear them every time. At my last DE at Roebling in January I did not yet have these, and it was COLD. For one session I wore a regular set of cloth "work glove" type of glove. Never again. My hand was sliding around and I had to hold on with a death grip to keep my hands fixed on the wheel. With the leather gloves linked above you don't have to grip more tightly. They feel natural. On a hot day if my hands were sweaty maybe they would help me if my hands were to get sweaty, but I haven't yet driven them in that condition yet so I can't say. Steve |
When I'm at the track I use my karting gloves...

Thanks think i will make a buy . The start of my thought process was when i asked a friend if i should do my hair like Ryan Golsing. After getting a general consensus from my ladies of "F*** Yes" I have decided to go for the hair for sure called "the driver" and then i felt gloves would be a good addition. I think i will pass on the scorpion jacket though haha. As for the goggles and such my sister has a Harlequin Great Dane, she said me and the dog both need goggles and to ride in my car haha!

driving gloves are something somebody buys you on father's day.
A trip to the Sports Authority in the batting gloves section will do. I like the Under Armour in all black. Usually about $20. But a seasonal item only. p.s. Does Ryan Gosling play the mumbling sad face guy in every movie? I think his contract says no facial movement above the lips will be requested. |
I came to accept that driving gloves are only for thin wooden steering wheels...
|
My brother-in-law has a BMW with an Alcantara steering wheel, he methodically puts his driving gloves on every time after he opens the car up and sits down in the driver's seat. I use to catch a glimpse of him doing this when departing from somewhere after a family gathering, all the while holding my tongue and not saying anything out loud. Last fall when we were piling into the family SUV my teenage daughter saw him doing it and said aloud what I had been thinking for years....."What a Tool........."
My 2 cents............and worth both of them. |

It was an example of irony....my daughter's off the cuff remark (the humor lies in the fact that it was so out of character for her) echoing out loud a long held observation of mine regarding an in-law, not really a blanket statement about those who choose to wear driving gloves. Just some humor guys...... IMO driving gloves should be reserved for track / autocross duty, but I'm an old fart these days. As far as facades, reputations and posing go I'm well past caring about such things, now GET OFF MY LAWN!!!!!! |
|
I wear Sparco driving gloves when on the track, because my hands sweat on my Prototipo wheel...never on the street (not intense enough)

Sorry, but wearing driving gloves on the street is just ghei. Especially in a convertible.
|
Nooooooo way!
Exception: Heavy snowfall and top down |
Driving gloves oh dear!! Perhaps if you have a polished quality timber wheel or heaven forbid a plastic timber lookalike wheel maybe thin leather gloves are justified. String backed gloves in an open car are the pits. Using a good old Australian description you would definitely described as a "bloody wanker"
|
In the dead of winter and heat of summer driving they help make it comfy to hold the wheel. Granted I dont have any

Cool, super stylish actually Jake. I'd say go for it. Brown look gent while the black looks a bit 'mafia' / 'the driver' kinda style Not an old fart yet....Saturday afternoon Playboy style still works for me lol :) |
Agree. Gloves when you drive and gloves when you shoot. Sunday afternnon Playboy style.

The two posts above could not have made my point better.
Hey Nine8Six, what ever happened to the 993 project you referenced several months back? |
Pass on the gloves. But I'm in for the scarf.

I don't wear gloves myself but try to add a touch when I take the roof down. Diving an old Porsche... might try to look more cool than the car a bit. Friend Jake here got a good idea I think. King of the Road. Don't agree? Quote:
(exterior is fixed, interior is compl ruined :/ ) |

We're gonna have to agree to disagree on the driving gloves thing, for me the mental image personifies "1970's Cheesiness", where's JD when we need him. Can't wait to see the 993........ |

If your gloves are cooler than you, it might help...dunno with what... If you are cooler than your gloves, they probably will cost you some coolness points, especially in summer time...:D see, no gloves needed ...although back then they would have been otay. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1397925544.jpg |

you get the idea |
Now I feel kinda weird for 'pre-arranging' myself for a Porsche Nine Eight Six roof-down event.
Often confused if I should wear my best TAG watch (huge piece), the aviator style shades or the Harley-davidson cool dude ones, wearing my gifted official Ferrari cap or one of my wife's oversized GAP hoody (pretending Justin Beiber). What else.... Looking good in MY boxster is a must (anyone, even my dog), or it stays parked there. Gloves.... hmmmm. Not sure but I'd like to see it before |
