				Windscreen and toll road speeds

New owner here, just got my 03 S a few weeks ago. I spend a lot of time on a toll road at 80 (ish) mph. With the top down, I can see the glass windscreen rattle quite a bit at these highway speeds. Is there a recommended top speed with top down and wind screen in place. I'm slightly concerned it will pop out. Does it need to be seated better, new clips, just taken off at those speeds?

Just yesterday I put my deflector back on after being off all Winter long.......I noticed that the left side was loose in the fitting, so I used 2 small pieces of tape on the fitting (cant see the tape with the deflector in place) and it seems very snug now. Its raining here in Atlanta so I can test to see if still rattles, but it should be better.

You can buy replacement clips, and you should. That's 99% of the rattle problem.
For the other 1%, I put some thin foam tape along the bottom of the plastic windscreen so it sits a tad higher in the groove and it doesn't rattle any more. Give that a try.

Be very careful removing your windscreen... if the frame bits snap off, the thing is toast.

Do you have a link to said clips?

My deflector rattles at speed as well. Both of the mesh headrest back were broken at time of purchase. I might look into getting those replaced one day.

Yes, plus I added the plexiglass inserts for the roll bars, makes a big difference IMO.

I've heard of windscreens flying off on Boxsters before. I've done some serious speeds with the top down with no problem though. But as these cars get older, take precaustions. Soft side of a velcro strip can silence a noisy windscreen also. I like the idea of buying the new clips. Are they priced reasonablly? (not trick question)

Thx, I just bought new clips for $11 plus shipping (along with a few other bits). Hopefully they are a snap to swap out. Used suncoast parts.

I've had my Box with top down at over 100mph doing fun laps at Road America, without issue. The windscreen does make a difference in buffeting and stayed in place, also without rattle. I did discreetly cable tie the mesh headrest backs to the roll hoops, as I've heard of them flying off at speed.

I did 147mph GPS verified top down exiting a tunnel in Italy before the proximity of lots of trucks in the lane next to me made me think I should slow down
If you can hear the wind deflector at these speeds then you have much more acute hearing than I do!

I've hit triple digits with no effect on either the plexiglass or the headrest inserts. I have no velcro, and no zip ties. I do believe the plexiglass prevents some buffeting.

Almost every day in the summer, triple digits, no problems for the past 3 years. I do buy new clips yearly just to cut down on the rattle.

Mine rattled when I got the car last year. I went to a craft store and got a 25 cent piece of felt, cut it to fit into the contact points and use spray adhesive I already had to secure it. It quieted down the wind deflector quite a bit.
