Chirping noise coming from rear of car/engine
 

So I posted about this in my into thread but figured it'd get more discussion in it's own thread. I am currently trying to find a way to post video (if you have an Instagram I put one on there @resslerbmx) anyways, it's a pretty loud chirping noise, happens when idling and anytime I'm on the gas, it's getting annoying and it's finally the weekend so I want to fix it. I've heard it's possibly the spark plugs, if so I want to replace them all, I've also heard belts/pulley bearings. Is there anyway to test this? Been searching for an answer all day and don't want to bring it to a shop, I'd rather give it a shot first. Thanks guys! Appreciate any and all help

Have you removed the engine access cover from behind the seats to see if the noise is coming from that area. That's where the pulleys are. Mine made a chirping sound just before the water pump pulley fell off.

How did yours sound? Mines pretty loud and gets more consistent as rpm's go up.

I've heard the AOS can cause this- indirectly I think. You could give the accessory drive belt a light spray with WD40 and see if that solves the problem. For pulley bearings you can push a 1'long pipe against each mounting bolt and with your ear at the other end, listen for a bad bearing. If there is one it will be obvious.

My IMSB chirped just like a bad water pump. I took the serp belt off and started it and it still made the noise so I shut it off and then planned my clutch/gearbox/flywheel/IMSB extravaganza.

Take the belt off and start the engine - Chirp = not the belt or driven component. No chirp = belt or driven component. You can trouble shoot using the other posts in this string from there to find the bad component.

I had two loose spark plugs that caused a chirp. A 1/4 turn on each one stopped the chirping.
