I know, I'm sorry, another oil question.
 

I tried searching but couldn't find anything. Which may be the answer to my question.

I'm going to get my oil changed today and my Indy asked if I wanted to use Kendall oil. The car has been with Mobil 1 since birth. Anyone have any experience?

I've been running Castrol Syntec 10W-40 in my 2000 and 2003 Boxster S's.

You should check the approved oils list elsewhere in this forum.

My general policy is if you have been using something and there are no issues, just stick with it.

I doubt changing oil types from one synthetic to another would cause much harm but it IS the life blood of your engine, so if in doubt, stick with what was working before.

I've never read of anyone on these forums using Kendal so you'll be doing engine testing for the rest of us if you go that route.

I've been using Mobil 1, Royal Purple and now RedLine.

I'm switching to all full-synthetic on all my cars and use either Castrol or M1. For the boxster I either use M1 0w40 or Castrol 5w40 to change out every ~6 months or ~6K miles. Finding those oil on sale has been easy.

I'm using Castrol Edge 5w40. I buy a couple of jugs when it goes on sale and I change at 5000 km. I'm of the opinion that too many people over-think this whole oil issue. Get the right viscosity in a quality synthetic oil and you're good to go. It's just oil.

Just one caveat, when switching between non-synthetic and full synthetic I have read that some seals may start to leak due to the different properties between the two.

I would check your other car forums to see whether that's a wise idea or not.

I was going to put Synthetic into my Jeep Wrangler as well but heard of possible leaking after the switch and decided against it for now.

I did hear about it years ago but it seems like speculations. I mean, I had several cars that leaks oil be the seals w/ dino oil.

My friend brought it up a month ago and I was like... hell... I'm switching my other two cars to full-synthetic and save time and money.

I think when you begin to own a porsche, you tend to be dumb-down w/ the basic tasks because you want to make sure that it's done right.

I tried a synthetic in the '73 911 aircooled...leaked like mad. Put good 'ol dino juice back in and the leaks were resolved. I wouldn't run anything other than a good synthetic in the Box.

Yeah. Stuck with Mobil 1.

Back in the early days of synthetic oil it was common when switching from dino to synthetic would cause leaks, some minor some severe. But that was back in the 70's and a lot has changed in regards to engine gaskets and synthetic oil. I run Brad Penn or Valvoline VR1 in 20w50 in my 1983 911SC. The technology at the time this engine was built plus the thermal expansion/contraction of the air/oil cooled engine leads me to believe a quality dino oil is the way to go. In my new to me Boxster S I will run synthetic. I'm pretty sure I will use Joe Gibbs Racing DT40 which is a 5w40 synthetic, mainly because Jake Raby recommends it. But for street driving most synthetic oils will probably be sufficient but I would never go long with change intervals, 5k max between oil/filter changes for me.
