Hard to believe but true. Never in a million years would I have believed it. And it does it with an old fashioned manual transmission! The new Z28 is impressive.

Can't believe it...

Interesting and a good story (as it should be!).

I subscribe to a lot of car magazines and read most cover to cover, but I take what they print with a few grains (ok, maybe pounds) of salt.

I guess what I'm saying is that there is no headline if the Porsche Turbo S wins and headlines sell magazines (and get stories re-posted online).

Misread the thread title and put 918 in my head instead of Turbo and assumed the ring haha. Still very impressive, just glad the 918 is still on top. Not a camero fan but the fact the RWD camero is faster than the AWD cars is impressive.

Classic case of comparing apples to oranges.

Go out and buy this Z28 with virtual slicks, race suspension, and no A/C or sound deadening, and get back to me in a year. Or when your fillings all fall out.

But..................the Z28 does sound like a very capable machine, and this proves that American car manufacturers have had the ability to produce machines like this all along. Maybe this will shut Clarkson up.

If so, buy the Z/28 for your track days and used the money saved (difference in price between the Z28 and GT3) to purchase a used 911 C4S as a daily driver.

Props the camero but they are comparing a track car to a gt, a loaded with Luxarys gt. it's like dragging an Ariel atom v8 to a Bentley, suprise suprise the arial will win. The camero is a beastly machine, just a bad comparison wait for the 991 gt2 rs since we are talking track cars, otherwise they need to bust out a zl1 at the least if not a normal SS.

Yes these are both GT cars and the Camero is virtually on slicks but there is still a huge price difference. $75k barely gets you a new Boxster S or Caymen S. These comparison are fun and meant to sell magazines but you have to give it up to the engineers at GM. Now apply all this know how to C7 and you truly have a world beater at a fraction of the price of the competition.

True, lets see this tech in a Vette. (still waiting on the return of the corvair just done right this time.)

porsche handled better, better power to weight, weighed less, has more horsepower, 1.4 second faster 0-60, 1.4 second faster quarter mile, much better figure 8 (but camaro has better lateral acceleration? that makes no sense)

Porsche has a higher speed around every turn, yet camaro was somehow faster overall? How does that even make sense?

also don't believe the braking, with smaller brakes and weighing 250 lbs more the camaro somehow stopped better?

Sure camaro is cheaper, so if that's all you go by then camaro is clear winner

doesn't matter in the long run, these magazines are always american biased, then you run into a new v8 camaro and it can't hang with a 2.7 boxster :D

I've driven a 6 speed SS and was not impressed but I am absolutely certain that it is quicker in a straight line then any 986. Sometimes it's the driver.

I was in a 987 and as with any situation YMMV

Maybe that's the point? Make a camaro that costs more than a corvette so they can make ridiculous claims about it because no one will ever buy it anyway :D

Kinda wish they would have fudged the numbers more to make it less obvious, or maybe they wanted to be caught? I mean you can't fudge 0-60 or quarter too badly since that's easy to test, but to put that the Porsche was faster around every corner and then say it was slower overall is absurd. They could have just claimed the camaro was a mph faster around each turn and no one could question the lower overall time because no one could repeat their test exactly. Is that motor trends call for help that GM made them fudge the overall time?

I also love how GM keeps saying the z28 did the ring in 7:37... IN THE RAIN! Emphasis theirs. Seriously GM couldn't wait for a dry day? Everyone else manages. :rolleyes: was the 0-60 in 4.0 .... IN THE RAIN! :rolleyes: I'm willing to bet GM can wait for a dry day and did many runs on the ring but couldn't manage a better time. They also often forget to mention the ac, stereo system and all sound deadening materials was removed from the z28 to do the test, because I'm sure many people are buying $75,000 camaros with no ac or radio :rolleyes: yes I know z28 suppose to be a track car blah blah, but seriously run the car with what it comes with, otherwise the numbers are lies and every manufacture could run stripped down cars for every test, just shows you what GM is capable of to get good numbers, surprised they didn't replace the glass with plexiglass and carbon fiber hood and trunk, after all it's a track car right? .... Or maybe they did, and by saying "oh we got this time by ripping out radio and sound deadening" they don't have to worry about being caught lying because they know no one is going to rip that out of their personal $75,000 camaro :cool:
