Before I bought my boxster I did a lot of reading on this forum. It was clear that a general rule of thumb was to have an estimated 2,000 dollars available per year for general upkeep and repairs and maybe some small unexpected things. I was just adding my last service receipt to a folder I keep them all in and decided to do a yearly total for parts and labor in 2013. Yearly total? 2000.99. Can someone loan me a buck? Just want to say thanks to all the active members here for great info and advice to help make my first Porsche experience a great one so far. Cheers!

Year 1 was $2800 for me. However I expect year 2 to be quite a bit lower *fingers crossed*

We are going for average costs here... The next two years will be a little bit more for you.

I think those that reply should differentiate between cost of maintenance, cost of repairs and whether or not the expense is incurred by a shop or by owner. One will pay a lot more if the work is done by others. Also, how much of the expense is involved in "upgrades" and changes to the basic car that are otherwise unnecessary.

I made no performance or aesthetic upgrades. My receipts were for maintainance and neccessary repairs only. But jäger makes a good point that I missed and that's a 2,000 average over ownership most likely, I imagine this year will cost me less that last year.

Yes, the longer you have owned it (and done the upkeep), the better the maintenance as years passes.

Then you get to spend the $2k/year on mods instead ; )

Years 1-9 (60k m): barely $200.

Years 10-13 (30k m): $4k per year

I've had my '98 for almost six years now. Even with paying my indy for oil changes, my annual maintenance has been an average of $732.

Year 1: Two rear tires, clutch, aluminum flywheel, Imsb and rear main seal-- $5500. Year 2: $5-600-- AOS, etc. Year 3: Approx. $8000 ( with all work done myself)-- Row 030 suspension, rotors, pads, stainless brake lines, wheel bearings, two front tires, 997 SS, fuel pump, caliper and wheel repaint.

I spent about $1300 per year on repair and maintenance for about 5yrs now:

-radiator fan
-water pump & thermostat
-tranny filter and fluid
-two sets of tires
-one set of wheels
-spark plugs
-window regulators
-motor oil change
-AOS

There's probably other stuff, too.

At 5,000 miles/year (my average so far), that'll be in 33 years

! Not sure I'll still be driving a Boxster when I'm 97

This is interesting...I purchased my '02 Box S in late 2005 with 7600 miles showing. Granted, I only drive it 2500 - 3000 miles a year, but my expense is mainly oil/filters and tires (they get old before they wear out). The most expensive repair to date was replacing the voltage regulator (DIY) which cost me maybe $60. Mods are a different story, as I've spent a fair amount on those, but that's a personal choice. Quality oil and high revs keep the IMSB demons away. I even take it out on the track for demo runs with students...good for it.
