Carrera Wheels on 986S?
 

May have found a deal on some Carrera 5 spoke wheels for my 2002 986S. My concern is the offset and use of spacers, these are 10x18 et65. My stock wheels are 9x18 et52. When I tried a test fit they hit the strut before seating to the hub. From much research on the interweb, and here, it looks like I need 23-25mm for the rear.
Any thoughts?

That will work with 265 tires & be "flush". Better to use a 15mm spacer. Best to use the 9" Boxster wheel.

Think the 10" might be too wide myself, and I would only use the 265/35 tire. I know it can be done and has been. These wheels are in great shape, never mounted on a car, and really great price. I think the price is what makes me want to make them work....

I have 10x18 ET65's on my 2001 with 265/35 tires. I used 20mm spacers without any problems. I got the spacers from wheeldynamics.com. I've been very happy with the set up. The spacers are excellent quality.

Thanks Bruce! That setup looks great, eases my concern about spacers.

No problem, the 10" wheels look great IMO. I thought about getting 7mm spacers for the front but after asking for opinions, most felt it looked perfect they way it is. Send an email to Eli at Wheel Dynamics or call him, the spacers are excellent quality and you won't need to get new bolts(and no I am not affiliated with him).:cheers:

I have those ET 65 Carrera 10" rims with 265/18" tires and 25mm spacers. I think they fit fine and look great!

That does look great! So no issues with rubbing or anything?
Plus I can use my stock wheels for track days to save any abuse on these.

No rubbing although you need to make sure the emergency brake cable doesn't rub. Mine doesn't.

So, what kind of price is so attractive to you?

I have the 10" wide turbo twist on mine with 23mm spacers for the rear. I'm running 265/35 tires and it's a bit stretched on there but it's very subtle.

I spent about $200 for the spacers and longer bolts.

The wheels are replicas, so a fraction of OE price. And about half of what I've seen online....

I'm running Boxster rears in the front (18x9 ET52) with 265/35-18 and 996 rears in the back (18x10 ET65) with 285/30-18 using a 20mm spacer. Tires are Potenza S-04.
That's probably the max amount of rubber you can fit without massaging the sheet metal.

I ordered some 23mm spacers for the rear, hopefully not too much. Would never think of running that big of a front tire & wheel. Did you need spacers for the front?

What is the common front spacers used by you guys? 7-10mm I'm guessing?

No spacers needed in the front.

I put 15mm in the front and 25mm in the rear. Found a great deal on a 18" set from a 996 Carrera. Even though the spacers weren't cheap it was still way cheaper than any 18" with proper offset I could find at the time.

Won't be too much on the rear. 7-10mm IF you feel you need them. I wouldn't order them until you see how it looks with the rears. You may not want any for the front, I didn't.

Are spacers are dangerous ? I mean does it change something to the wheels attachment solidity ?

Buy quality spacers and you shouldn't have a problem. Some will say it may accelerate bearing wear.

When you buy spacers, avoid using the ones required two sets of lug bolts. IMO... structurally, it's stronger if you use a single set of lug bolts like me or MarkSkyline. It's stronger because you fasten it at the OEM holes, not at the spacer where the quality of the spacer material can be questioned.

I went with the bolt on style for now. I might opt for the stud conversion too.
