You can go at least 30 miles from when the needle hits zero driving normally. From when the light comes on if you drove really carefully you'd probably manage near 100 miles. Driving normally with the flow of traffic, at least 50 miles from the light coming on. The needle will travel down a considerable distance below zero.

I've done this routine overly the last 50,000 miles. Nobody died! http://www.pistonheads.com/inc/images/hehe.gif

If I fill mine just after the light comes on it takes most of 13 gallons which means there is more than 3 gallons left.

What am I doing wrong/right? I was filling up every 350-370 miles on my last road trip. In nasty, Chicago, stop-and-go traffic, I get about 300 miles to the tank. Do I have the gas saving, fuel efficient, economy 2.5 model? Perhaps it's my awesome, manual driving skills? :)
