What to buy?

We are trying to find a suitable '05 Boxster 'S.' This will be our first Porsche and wonder what are some of the equipment items that are "must haves?" Realizing of course, since we are buying used, we will have to make some compromises!

Just a few thoughts and comments would be helpful.

I don't know what part of the country you are in but I suggest the following:

1) Heated seats- even in "warm" climates, for the early morning run or late night ride

2) Windstop- you want it!

3) YOU DON'T really need- climate control or power seats- use this money for other options.

4) There are a lot of new 2005's out there 987 and 987S- you should be able to buy one for 18-20% off MSRP. This might be better than buying a pre-owned.

5) Any other options are really personal choice.

6) A great way to new locate cars is Porsche's web site. Select "locate dealer" and the "search inventory" of the dealers.

GOOD LUCK!

BMus is right on. I think the must haves are

1. Heated Seats - Even in warm climates
2. Windstop - Can't say enough about this option

The following are really nice to have:

3. 18" wheels
4. Upgraded Stereo
5. Metallic Paint

Are you a Beech Sierra owner? Great airplane!

From a resale perspective, the must haves are:

Heated and power seats-memory is best

Climate control/cruise control

Full leather

Windstop/storage compartment

Upgraded stereo

I would opt for PASM wherever possible. In normal mode, it offers a compliant yet sporting ride for every day driving and touring. In sport mode, it tightens things down substantially and is ideal for all spirited driving. It is my understanding that the sport mode is good enough for track use, however you would want to research this further if track use is your goal.

As I see it, with PASM you get 2 cars for the price one. Add to that Sport Chrono and you will never run out of fun.

...just one man's opinion, of course. Good luck.

Thanks everyone for the input! In response to the question about "where we live," we reside in the Rockies so heated seats are indeed a MUST. Many of the items that were mentioned were already on our list so I think we must be on the right track!

Our current challenge is finding a seal gray metallic with gray leather and a gray top! The top is making it difficult. We have found several seal grays with black tops. I know about the case put forward about keeping the gray top clean but that's what my wife wants.....need I say more!

Finally, in response to the reference to a Beechcraft Sierra and my log in name, the answer is yes! We are proud owners of a Sierra and it will always be my favorite mode of transportation! But, the Porsche will be a very nice second!

We're going to do some more hunting and we'll start including a new '05 in the search!

Thanks again to all of you. We're new to the forum but it seems like a good group!

Hey, Bmussatti-

I found the one in NY too. Called about three times and when we finally had a chance to chat the deposit had been placed by another buyer! Shoot!

Thanks for trying, keep an eye out for us. My dealer is looking too!

As for flying into Glenwood Springs, I have not. I've been into Denver many times and Grand Junction but not theSprings. Is that where you live?

Seal grey with the Tan interior is very striking.

My best friend lives in Glenwwod Springs. He flys 5-6 days per week out of there in a Cessena and an aerobatic plane. I have done the final approach once, and then he landed it.
