Welcome to Illinois....NOT!!!!

Bit of a vent here....
Just moved to Illinois from Hawaii not too long ago....Heck, just got my Illinois license a few days ago....Anywho.....

I have had a recurring problem in Hawaii with my coolant resevoir....Had it replaced because it was cracked. 3 months later in Hawaii it happened AGAIN!! Had it checked and they claimed everything checked out OK....No problems the next few months in Hawaii....

Get to Illinois and intermittent leaks occurred again! Took it to a good Porsche dealership in the western suburbs and they tell me the problem....Looks as tho one of the hoses has a slice about 6-8" long leading from the end which attaches to the tank. Mechanic said (and showed me the hose) that it looked like whoever attached it probably cut open the box it was in and cut the hose as well! How could the dealership in Hawaii not have seen this? REALLY pisses me off that they could be so negligent!

So I'm sitting at home waiting for a call from the dealership as they had to overnite the hose.....I get a call this afternoon saying that they fixed the problem BUT there is another problem....Seems as tho they were road testing it, and while the mechanic was stopped at an intersection, a lady in an Escalade rammed into my back end!!!! She was cited and all, now doing the insurance swap and all....Messed up the trunk, bumper, taillights, and at least one of the rear fenders....7 months ago I was hit by a flying lava rock! Whats next???

On the bright side, they DID give me a 2006 Boxster loaner.....Verrrry nice......

Lou

KRZTACO 02-10-2006 03:30 PM

Holy ****************, that went from bad to worse.

I do aggree there is a cherry on top of this $hit parade....you get a SWEET loaner car.

KRZ

SD987 02-10-2006 03:33 PM

Wow, that truly sucks !

That loaner is a nice gesture on their part but a Box in Chicago in February sounds like automotive frustration. They should let you take your pick of the freakin cars on their lot after that mishap. I'd push for Cayman/911, although a Cayenne might be most practical.

bmussatti 02-10-2006 04:26 PM

bigislandboxster, sorry to hear about the problem. That really sucks!

How did you pay for the repair in Hawaii? Possibly you can call your cedit card company, and have them reverse the charges. Get a letter from the dealer here for back-up with the credit card company stating poor workmanship from the Hawaii dealer.

Hope everything gets worked out well and quickly.

Rail26 02-10-2006 04:40 PM

I know all about rear end collision's...shoot me a message if you any questions. I just went through it all. Sorry for the accident...I grew up in IL...not sure what that contributes to the conversation, but you can use that as trivia at your next party.

rbennett 02-10-2006 06:16 PM

5 years ago I had an Infiniti and while stopped at a red light a women rear ended me while she was talking on a cell phone, not fast, 15 mph.

Fast forward 4 years, at the same damm red light within the exact hour of the day of the last incident, a woman rear ends my Boxster while talking on a cell phone

Not fast, maybe 8 mph this time. I got out, walked to the passengers side of the truck she was driving (her boyfriend in the passengers seat thought I was going to whip some ass), he rolled the window down and a big harry arm (mine) reached in and opened the glove box and grabbed the insurance proof form. I immediatly took the form back to my Porsche and called the Police!

bigislandboxster you were lucky, the women that smacked me, her cheap ass insurance tried to give me a Dodge Neon!!!

I said just give me the rental car money instead :)

PSP 02-10-2006 11:23 PM

Next time, before you leave - make a monument to your car with the coral graffiti off Queen Kaahumanu Hwy ;)

Sorry to hear about your car...

Brucelee 02-11-2006 06:41 AM

As much as I am a libertarian at heart, I am getting to where I would support a ban on cell phones in cars.

Some BROAD (I use this term sparingly) almost hit me yesterday. On the cell phone and fixing her hair (in her SUV of course).

This left HOW MANY HANDS for the steering wheel???????????????????

Aye Carumba!

bigislandboxster 02-11-2006 07:09 AM

Thanks for the support!

Moving has been a little tough, but then this happened.....Nothing like a little extra drama in my life :ah: .....

Talked to the police who cited her and my insurance company, shes going to take care of everything, costs to fix and rental car as well.....She admitted blame at the scene, dealerships on my side as well as the police, so she knows she doesn't have a case at all. Most of this should be sorted out Monday....

Weathers been relatively good here, well, for February anyway  .....

The officer at the scene said she admitted to monkeying with her OnStar program when this happened.....She was from North of the city and was trying to find the Oakbrook mall.....

Should know more this Monday, gonna try and get a shot of the damage then as well.....

bmussatti 02-11-2006 07:24 AM

bigislandboxster, who will do the body work? Was the car at Westmont Porsche?

FYI, the PCA Chicago section is having a meeting on 2/26 at Westmont Porsche. Are you planning to go?

bigislandboxster 02-11-2006 07:57 AM

Yeah, the car is at Westmont Porsche, thats who was working on it....They seem to be pretty standup so far....They recommended International Body Shop in Elmhurst, say they get their work done there, so I'm going to give them a try unless you've heard something to the contrary....

Don't know if I'll have the car back by then, so we'll see about the PCA meeting ;)

Funny, I was in OaK Brook this week!

Hmmm, now THAT is a coincidence! :D

Checkin out the mall?

No, I don't have a body shop recommendation. I'm sure the dealer knows where good work is done.

You should go to the meeting, you don't need to have your car there. The meeting agenda is a Concours School and a Chili Tasting!

I still have a healthcare consulting practice that is a part time gig for me. I was in seeing a client.

Rail26 02-12-2006 08:56 PM

Wasn't the Bozo show from Oak Brook? I loved that chap when I was a kid! Nothing like the grand prize game...I hope somebody knows what I am talking about or this is going to seem like a really weird post. I grew up in Champaign and my TV was stuck on Channel 9 WGN.

If you are talking Bozo the clown, we had a local NJ version of the show. I loved him too, although later we used to call a guy a "bozo" if he was a clown of a different ilk.

BTW-I was offered a job once located in Champain. I spent three days there checking it out.

Small world, no?

Rail26 02-13-2006 05:04 PM

Very small....aren't we 7 people removed from knowing everybody in the world?

Yep, I was talking about Bozo the clown and do you remember Wizzo the wizard? He ran around saying doodee doodee doodee. Um, this really got weird...going back to my beer and TV.

asnigro 02-13-2006 05:29 PM

Welcome to Illinois!

Bozo had a sidekick named cookie right? With orange hair? I grew up in south-eastern Wisconsin, but now live in the Western suburbs. I loved to practice the Grand Prize Game at home with garbage cans!

We had a local Bozo. I went to see him live on day where he was doing a telethon.

We did NOT have a Wizzo the wizard. Must be a mid west only phenom.

Rail26 02-13-2006 07:39 PM

asnigro, YES! Cookie, Bozo and Wizzo! I have been vindicated! The Grand Prize Game was awesome. I too practice on a regular basis...never know when I will have to call upon those skills to win a free trip to Disney world or a Porsche. I'm glad someone knows what I am talking about...I thought my forum membership might have been in jeopardy.

Brucelee 02-14-2006 05:39 AM

."..I thought my forum membership might have been in jeopardy."

No chance as long as us old timers own the joint!

Adam 02-14-2006 06:20 AM

Welcome our wonderful little state!!!! Well, I guess it's not that little but there is alot of corn down here!

Brucelee 02-14-2006 06:33 AM

I was in Springfield once. Cute little town and plenty of good steak houses!

bmussatti 02-14-2006 06:56 AM

There is an old joke about Bozo! Everyone wanted to know what happen to him one day. And Cookie said, "I don't know, but Wizzo found his balls in bucket number six!"

Or something like that!

How about those magic arrows! That was a high tech special effect in its day!

bigislandboxster 02-14-2006 08:13 AM

In the land of Bozo and corn...

yeah, thats where I'm at! :)

Lived in the area for 30 something years, went to Hawaii, now I'm back....

Adjuster should be out in the next day or 2, so things will be moving along shortly....

Will get a pic when I head up there with the adjuster in the next day or 2....

The internet makes the world a bit smaller now doesn't it? ;)

Rail26 02-14-2006 06:42 PM

Balls in a bucket! Good ol' Cookie...

Doodee Doodee Doodeee...what the hell is that? It that nutz in Bucket 6? Bmus, that was my laugh for the evening.

bigislandboxster 02-20-2006 05:53 PM

Little update of sorts.....

Cars damage has been appraised at 9,100+ samolians, and I should have the breakdown on the work being done shortly....

Heres some pics of the damage done

Rail26 02-20-2006 06:59 PM

That just ruined my evening...I am going to cry myself to sleep. She was so young and pure to be treated like that. I'm sorry for your loss.

BadBoyS 02-21-2006 07:53 AM

Ya I'm Sorry for you too. Made me cringe looking at those pics. Will be intresting to see the break down on the repair costs.. Sorry Again...

:( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

bigislandboxster 02-21-2006 08:05 AM

Thanks fellow Boxsterites ;)

Still waiting on the breakdown...Although it appears to be mostly outside metal and plastic that needs to be repairing , I look at it this way. Between the front bumper being replaced and now this, from the outside I'll have over 1/2 the car with new paint and metal. Gotta look at the bright side of things....Hell, maybe I'll just get the rest of the car (front fenders, hood and doors) painted as well!

Lou

bigislandboxster 02-24-2006 07:40 AM

Heres the info I got from the other partys insurance.....Looks like they have it covered pretty well.........

MNBoxster 02-24-2006 08:25 AM

Hi,

Read your Estimate... a couple things to consider. Make sure they spec OEM Paint, it's not so marked on the Est. Also, be sure they go for a 4-wheel alignment!!! Unibody Cars when struck can throw a wheel on the opposite corner out - you don't want a high speed vibration because of something they overlooked. Be very skeptical and realize that they want to Estimate the job at the minimun to reduce their exposure...

Happy Motoring!... Jim'99

bigislandboxster 02-24-2006 12:40 PM

Thanks for the helpful advice MNBoxster! :) ....I'll check on the paint, tho it is being done by a place recommended by the Porsche dealer....and the alignment issue is very important as well...

Have a great one!

Lou

bigislandboxster 03-22-2006 06:29 PM

Little update of sorts...

The car has left the shop and is now at the dealers so they can do an overall Quality Control check of the work done and to see if anything was missed in the initial appraisal....So far they have found that the right rear control arm is bent and needs to be replaced. Alignment as well needs to be done....car is pulling to the right.....also the rear spoiler is sticking and not moving freely as it should. So some good news, but its not over yet....Westmont Porsche is also checking the coolant system and repressurizing it and testing it. At this point we're still waiting to hear back from her insurance company on the control arm and alignment....

Otherwise, alls good!

Hope to have her back pretty soon, I miss my Box!

Lou

bigislandboxster 04-04-2006 03:54 PM

Shes back!.....

and I have to say I couldn't be happier! :) 49 days later and the original problem with the anti freeze leak is corrected and the car has been put back together.....I have to say in all honesty the car looks better than it did when it first arrived. Chips and nicks on the doors and rear quarters are now gone, and the paint was a perfect match.....Westmont Porsche and International Body Shop get a big thumbs up for the work they did, I would highly recommend them both. You hear horror stories from some dealers, but these guys were top notch....Geno and Cary thanks a lot for the great service! They threw in a nice detail job as well to boot.....

asnigro 04-04-2006 08:27 PM

What a beauty, hopefully there's some more top down weather for you on the way so you can get reaquainted!

bigislandboxster 04-05-2006 06:41 AM

Thanks for the well wishes :) .....I hear you on the weather, hopefully we get some warmer weather soon, I'm itching to put the top down, but I'll wait til it gets up to high 60s or 70 before I do that.....Heard enough stories about the plastic rear window cracking under cooler temps.....Life is better with the Box now back!

Lou

MNBoxster 04-05-2006 06:46 AM

Hi,

Glad you're Whole again... the Car looks Great!...
