My 1999 Boxster passed the 200,000 mile mark

FYI,

I passed the 200,000 mile mark in my Boxster last week. I picked it up in Sep 09 with 104,000 miles. I don't believe the IMS has ever been touched.

This weekend I changed the oil & filter as well as the spark plugs.

I change the oil & filter every 10,000 miles with Mobil 1 15W50. It doesn't leak or use any oil between changes. I do wish Mobil would make their Extended Performance Mobil 1 in either 10W40 or 15W50 viscosity.

I've decided to wait until Tuesday to cut open my oil filter (I want to enjoy this moment while I can).

I did discover that my driver side rear inner cv joint cover is torn. I will have to take it to mechanic this week (changing the cover is just above my skill level).

I always said, "Once I reach 200,000 miles, I will start looking for a 996." I've decided to wait until we reach 250,000 miles.

Friday, I ordered a new set of tires from TireRack. Next weekend I will have the tires mounted and treat it to a full detail.

Just my two-cents.

It's a daily driver and I don't baby-it... I like the sound of 6000 RPM and take it up there often.

Man thats thick oil, maybe thats the key.I believe Pedro uses something similar in viscosity on his and has similiar mileage with no issues. Then again u both are reside in a hotter climate.I am in Ontario, canada and use 5w40 (summer driven only) was thinking off going to 5w50 or even 10w40 myself but on those early spring and late fall temps we experience it may be be to heavy, any feedback u could give on this would be greatly appreciated.Post a pic of your ride, congrats!!

Congrats!

96,000 miles in just over four years.......that's about 22,600 miles per year. You must do a lot of highway driving, which is less stressful on the engine than short-trip, city driving.

At 250,000 miles, if you're not ready for the 996, you can always pick up another Boxster at under 100,000 miles an do it all over again!
