How much have you done in your first year of ownership?

I bought my 2000 Boxster in December 2011, and since then have spent more than I think my wife knows. The latest addition was a set of 18" wheels that I had refinished and put on new rubber. I put on a NHP muffler and some exterior bits - smoked side markers, a silver/black emblem, and replaced the broken Boxster script.
I wrapped some of the interior pieces with carbon fiber wrap, but I'm thinking of having them hydro graphic'd for a more professional look.

With maintenance costs and the add-ons, I think I'm easily close to $3000.00 (I had to fix a dent from the previous owner).

I don't mind spending the money cause it makes me smile every time I hear that engine roar. |

Not much up until today!2000 base

Day 2 - replace ignition switch at dealership. They only had the full ignition switch / steering lock in stock. Best $570 I ever spent ;-) as it let me actually drive the car I just purchased!

CV boots on one axle - $250

 Oil change - $150

 New tires (today!) - $1150

 Alignment (tomorrow) - $125

Miscellaneous (wiper blades, hood/trunk shocks etc...) ~$200

So I appear to be at ~$2500 in six months..... Hmm that hurts to add it up.

I expect the brakes to be good for another year, maybe longer now!

I would never have put this kind of money in any other car, so whats the point of doing this math? This is much cheaper than therapy and a whole lot more fun! I suggest deleting this pointless thread.

Hey Van!!- recognized your name from the WORLD site- did you get rid of your 914, or just add a 986?

mine is a 2000S with 68,k miles bought from second owner- now has 74k miles, just returned from a trip to NYC from SC with my son to visit a couple grad schools longest trip with a 986 so far oh, and bought a hard top while passing thru D.C. on my way

Got my 986 10 months ago and within the first few weeks replaced the O/A sep, did the ignition upgrade, oil change, replaced the O2 sensor on right, and other than that just enjoing the car- P.O. had already done tires, brakes, CV boots and other O2's within 2k miles of my purchase-

now, on my short list however is new headers and cats- when i replaced the upstream O2 on right side the threads were stripped and rusted out bad, i had to re-thread it. it holds but i will have to replace these soon, so i am looking hard at the Maxspeed set up. (SS, 200cell sport cats etc)

Purchased a 2003 Boxster base model back in April 2012 with a blown engine. Car had 52K miles, brand new clutch installed by Porsche dealership, new convertible top linkages, and new tires. Previous owner was done with the car and wasn't going to put another penny into it. Bought it for a decent price and I was willing to take on a project. The engine probably split a cylinder wall since the left exhaust manifold was full of coolant when I removed the exhaust to remove the engine. I haven't taken the time to disassemble and investigate yet. Just holding onto the engine for spare parts for now. Anyways, this is what I've done so far:
 1) Installed a used engine with 30K, new water pump, LN IMS upgrade, IMS 160 thermostat, new rear crank seal, new spark plugs, new oil/air separator, KN drop in air filter, new expansion tank, and all new fluids.
 2) Turn signal switch was broke, so I went ahead and installed new switch with cruise control and OBC controls. Recoded with Durametric and both functions now work.
 3) Kids want to ride too! Installed SRS bar under passenger side seat and had dealership recode.
 4) Radio was basic with dash speakers only. Installed Kenwood DNX9990HD double din unit (nav/bluetooth/etc.), JL amplifier, JL audio speakers in dash and doors now (I can actually hear the radio with top down now!). Bought a used BOSE subwoofer box and removed the Chinese BOSE speakers and installed JL 5.25's.
 5) Sloppy shifter. Installed short shift kit-great improvement.
 6) Poor night time illumination-Installed Chinese HID retrofit kits and jumped foglamp relay. No more problems seeing in the dark anymore, but annoying battery and oil pressure light comes on. Will be fixed in phase II though!

 Phase II:

Just bought a 2002 996 C4S with a blown engine! Gonna remove front fenders, bumpers, Xenon headlamps, and update the look on my Boxster. With the install of the factory Litronics now, I can get rid of the dash warning lights! Also will be removing heated seats for the chilling morning Spring mornings with the top down. If you ask why I don't fix the 996, I want a convertible and I've sold the car for the same amount I paid for it and an agreement that I give him the old Boxster seats and body parts in exchange. The new owner just want to strip the 996 and track it anyways. So for the money, I won't have much invested into O.E. Litronics, updated front end, and heated seats!

Pete, can you elaborate on this -- what does "jumped foglamp relay" mean, and why your battery and oil pressure lights came on..?

And speaking of HID retrofits, anyone knows this kit:
