Yep, I think I killed mine last weekend. The car was laying down some fast laps out at Chuckwalla and felt great, right up until she wouldn't shift out of 4th gear. :(
My crew at 911 Design is looking at her today to eliminate possible linkage or shift mechanism issues but I suspect it is internal and terminal.

A nice used one with <50K miles and clean oil would be great.

You might check with Hergshimmer in Lake Forest they had a few for sale several months ago.

Yay! the gearbox is A-ok. On inspecting the linkage from stem to stern they found a rock wedged into the linkage up on top where I could not see it. That jammed the shifter and once freed everything works fine.

Moral of the story: If you stay on the track surface you are less likely to have issues like this. For off road rally driving, choose a different car. :o

congrats. having said that, i'd love to know if you got any good leads on a 5-speed, as I am in the market too.

ps, ever checked on frontwd audi a4 or vw Passat boards? both use the same audi 01a 5-speed transmission (same as the boxster) and they have found that the rear torsen differential from a v8 audi fits in there just fine ...

Brad Roberts said he has a couple but I don't know if he ships to the great white north. Shoot him a PM.
