What modifications do you regret doing?

I am curious to hear what mods you have done to your Boxster that you wished you had not done. Over the years of building bikes and cars I tend to get caught up in the discussions either on forums or with some of the builders I hang out with...and one beer leads to another and an idea is born. From that money (usually a lot) is spent and a few weeks (or more) down the road I'm done. While I am happy with what I have done, I realize that I really didn't need to do what I just did.

I have made suspension changes that fit one venue only to find that I am now using it differently and have to undo that work. I have had some high end custom paint jobs that are fantastic to look at only to realize that to preserve the paint I can't run it like I had planned.

What if any have you had to deal with now your regret?

All I know is the Aztec Princess mural on the hood is a "must-have" oh and the white dingleballs trimming the windshield, of course!

Bought a cheap exhaust on ebay and couldn't handle the awful drone-went back to stock a week later, maybe I'm in the minority, but I so some long trips from la to Vegas and enjoy the quieter cruising from the stock exhaust. Live and learn.

Did the de-snorkle awhile back. Made no sound difference. (to me anyway) Putting it back stock I scratched the paint and broke tabs. Wish I hadn't of done it! Although I'm sure I would've agonized about it if I hadn't at least tried…. so there you have it!

Bought the same exhaust. Drone was awful first week. Then as the computer adjusted it became awesome. I get compliments all the time. Love it.

I'm regretting putting in ksport coil overs.

Less than 2 years later and the pillowtop bearings are shot.

Believe it or not: I installed PSS9 + Tarrett sway bars + GT3 LCA
ROW M030 would have been better (and much cheaper)

RandallNeighbour 01-15-2014 04:53 AM

That's what I was thinking, Chris.

I also bought an aftermarket "Top Speed" exhaust and had the drone, but then I did the 2nd Cat delete pipes as well and now I have the most incredible sounding exhaust ever and no more drone.

And to add to the pleasure the responsiveness of the throttle had increased 10 fold.

It literally leaps forward now through gear changes and off the line as the power comes on instantly. It was almost too immediate and I had to adjust my clutching to match the instant application of power...awesome!!!

Its the best $300 + $200 I ever spent for a mod so far so if your results are mixed then try the TopSpeed mufler with 2nd Cat deletes.

Is there any aftermarket delron or any other things to help with this.

I'm going Ksports -- but its a drive to track car.

Oh I just remember another one:
Softronic chip tuning - what a complete waste of money
It would have been easier if I just carried the money out in my driveway and just burned it right there...

'ya the things we do when in love!:p... and the people who will take advantage of our 'altered state'!$$$$$$$

Sparco Pro 2000 racing seats when the Boxster was a street/track car. The Pro 2000 model has a fairly deep seating position and it was difficult to get in/out (you had to lift your butt up and over the seat side).

A shallower racing seat like the Evo might have been a better choice - but the Pro 2000 is perfect for a track car so I am glad that I didn't have to buy racing seats again when I built out the race car.
