new 911 targa
what do you think of the new 911 Targa?
|
I love it. Open top when you want it . Hard top coupe when you don't. Balisimo bile
|
Jury's out on this one...I like the retro concept, but the back just looks too bloated to my eyes. Must have been the same design team as the Panamera.
|
Huge looking grand touring car, but not bad.
I'll certainly take a Targa over the bath tub with big butt a.ka. 991 Cabriolet. 991 Targa http://thesupercarkids.com/wp-conten...03-610x250.jpg 991 bath tub http://www.topgear.com/uk/assets/cms...p=120515_10:46 |
Watching the conversion videos I think it's clear that the best design would be to keep the support and loose the bubble.. Mid conversion looks way too sexy and Paul walker killer reminiscent

911's look best by far in Coupe form. IMO the targas were ugly in the 70's and 80's, this one isn't much better either. They simply butcher the iconic 911 silhouette. Porsche should leave the top down motoring to the Boxster, it does it best.

I am a Targa fan! I would love to own one. But I agree the first softw windows are my favorite!
|
I think the hoop would look better black.
|
I love it,hands-down best Targa yet.

What kind of weight has this added?

You can offset that adde weight with a light set of wheels, although I'm not sure what those Hot Wheels looking things weigh stock. It's funny to think that before the Targa Porsche went quiet a long while without any manner of convertible Carrera. |
it looks fantastic imho. Would love to sit in one!
|
As someone who currently owns a targa, all I can say is:
:barf: Sorry, it's just not for me. (Maybe it will look better in person). / |
I love it! :D
It does need a whale-tail to be a proper Targa, though. |
not a fan ... prefer the base look
|
Hoping they bring this to the auto shows. I think I need to see one in person.

With all that said, I'm not a fan of the new targa. Look at the wheel well size, then look at the glass window height. The proportions are too skewed. |

A duck or whale tail on a big touring car like the 991/997 looks like Timberland workboots on a tuxedo. Even the look of the 997 GT3 spoiler (a.k.a the park bench) was one of the biggest complaints from owners. "I look like a boy racer driving down the street". Actually come to think of it... a Cayman would look pretty cool as a Targa. |
My dad has always remaked that he loves the lines of the Cayman, but until they add a sunroof he'd never want to own one.
It might lose some rigidity but the Boxster platform is pretty darn rigid as we all know. Imagine a glass-top targa cayman or a retro-style targa, either would be quite nice looking. |
We need Nine8Six photoshop skills.
|
What is next? 20 inch Fuchs?
|
Targa and cabriolet are both ugly IMNSHO. I'm saving for a 991S without the sunroof!

http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...ps3919f5f7.jpg You gotta give credit to Porsche for following through on the retro targa but my guess it will be the red headed stepchild of the 911 line-up, who knows. I don't know what I'd be more afraid of if I owned a 7 to 10 year old example; the of a PDK repair bill or the targa top mechanism going wonky bill. |
^^^^^^????^^^^^
Adding to the questionable lines of the Targa, I just can't come to terms with these humungus wheels that are so popular today. They may fill the arches but they make the rotors and brake calipers look tiny & insignificant after thoughts..... And lets be honest, a good 17"or18"wheel package together with the large red (or yellow) Brembo's bolted onto cross drilled rotors stand out like dogs gonads & are eye candy to all....just not when they look like add on Lego blocks bolted to 20" chariot wheels. |

That new Targa top design looks like they put some $$$ and money into developing it, surely they would want to get some more revenue from it by applying to it a 981. Steve Tinker, I agree. The How Wheels look of the 20" wheels looks comical. And you can add those giant Fuchs wheels to things that do not work on a grand touring Carrera along with duck and whale tails. The lines are all wrong on the 991 and 997. And Porsche was charging quiet a nickel for those special edition "retro" 997's. Those cars have flattened angles and not short, bulbous lines like the 911, 964, 993 etc. Actually come to think of it unless a 964 or 993 is back-dated Fuchs look weird on those cars as well. Some things only belong on a 911. |
