Question bad noises from rear

When making hard left turns in my boxster, I notice a wierd sound, almost like a tire rubbing something mixed with a grinding sound. I looked, and couldn't find evidence of the tire rubbing, jacked up the car and checked for play anywhere in the suspension, and everything seems tight. It only does it on very hard left turns, and it stops when you push the clutch in. It also sounds like it comes from the center of the car, near the engine or transmission, not from either side. anyone ever experienced this or have any ideas? The car is a 97, with about 65k miles.

Sometimes I make bad noises from the rear as well... usually after eating baked beans or cabbage.

Sorry, couldn't resist. Just wanted to beat Rail26 to the punch.
