cruise control and quick radio cutout

My cruise control on my 99 just recently stopped working (dash light will come on when i turn CC on, I will try to activate CC and the light will go out on its own a few seconds later) and in addition, while the car is still warming up, at idle, the revs will raise to about 1000, the gauge lights will dim, the radio will quickly cut out and then everything will be fine after (CC still doesnt work).

From http://986forum.com/forums/performance-technical-chat/25251-light-flickering-dimming.html, it seems they might be related...would a bad ignition switch cause both of these?

Yes, a bad ignition switch will do all sorts of weird things to your car. I had a 98 that the CC wasn't working at all on until I changed out the switch.

Items I've personally encountered (on 2 Boxsters) that were remedied by R/R the ignition switch.

1. Interior dome light would not go out.
2. AC fan would not work, but restarting the car would make it work.
3. Radio cutting out and resetting
4. Radio would not turn off when key was removed
4. Cruise not working

Interesting, thank you for the good info. I'll replace the ignition switch and get back to this thread.

The new ignition switch didn't fix the cruise control issue, but the old one looked pretty crappy so I'm happy I changed it??¿
