Michael Schumacher, critical after ski fall
Say a prayer for the 7 time F1 WC:
BBC News - Michael Schumacher, former F1 champion, critical after ski fall |
Very sad and doesn't sound good, I hope the champ pulls through.
|
Been following the story on Deutsche welle. They have more frequent updates. Praying for Schumi and his family.

Yes, very sad news indeed. While many suggest that his come-back attempt with Mercedes was disappointing, his performance in qualifying relative to his team- mate Rosberg was quite close. The fact that this year Rosberg more than occasionally out-qualifed Hamilton, a driver who many consider the fastest qualifier in F1, suggests that Schumie still had it even into his forties: certainly his peformance in qualifying at Monaco a couple of years ago confirms the same.
While it is impossible to accurately compare drivers from different eras, there is little doubt that Michael Schumacher would be on anyone's short list of the greatest drivers of all time. Let us hope that he can not only survive this terrible event, but make a full, or virtually full recovery. Brad |
Another operation last night. Still unsure about the prognosis.
|
His condition is improving. He's getting the absolute best care available on the planet. His physical condition, which is excellent, should aid in his recovery.
Karl Wendlinger suffered a similar injury in a F1 car at Monaco, and he recovered. 19 days in a medically induced coma, and he recovered nonetheless. Schumi and Karl were teammates in the Mercedes junior team back in 1990. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1388531995.jpg TO |
I heard about this the other day. Wishing him the best.

From the Times:
Both operations involved drilling through Schumacher’s skull. In the first, undertaken immediately after Schumacher arrived at the hospital by helicopter, barely 90 minutes after the accident, the surgery involved the right side of his head; in the second, 24 hours later, the left side. The doctors said that while both operations had been successful in relieving pressure, they had left multiple hematomas, or blood clots, deeper inside his brain that were not accessible to further surgery. Among the many neurosurgeons who have come forward to discuss the Schumacher case since his accident — experts who are not involved in his care — the common view has been that the injuries described by the Grenoble team leave open a wide range of possibilities. They have described these as running from a full recovery to various forms of long-term impairment, and, at the worst, to a situation in which Schumacher might lose his life without ever regaining consciousness. No official word from the motorsports press, but speculation is rife amongst the others. 25 days in a medically-induced coma is a LONG time. :(

:-(
I am ignorantly ignoring the 'speculation' part. Get better Schue. Please get better. |

From the Associated Press, one hour ago:
Michael Schumacher's manager says doctors have started the process of bringing the former Formula One champion out of the coma he has been in since a skiing accident a month ago. The German was skiing in the French Alpine resort of Meribel on Dec. 29 when he fell and hit the right side of his head on a rock. Since then he has been in an induced comas in Grenoble University Hospital. His manager Sabine Kehm says in a statement Thursday that ''Michael's sedation is being reduced in order to allow the start of the waking up process which may take long time.'' TO |
we'll hope for the best
