I'll be picking up a 2002 S in February it will share daily driver duties with my pickup. I have a 911SC that is insured with Grundy, it is an agreed value policy but has the normal restrictions like can't drive it to work. My truck and wifes RAV4 plus the house are insured with Allstate. I swung by my agents office last week they ran me a quick quote the S will add $29.00 per month. I didn't talk specifics I basically asked quote what I have on the other two. So what are you using for insurance on your Boxsters ? Are you using an agreed value policy or a standard policy ? I'm going to do a couple online quotes just to get a baseline but it seems like my Allstate quote is reasonable in price. And for those of you that REALLY know what insurance coverages should be any advice is appreciated !

All with American Family. 4-plex, duplex, 3 houses, the business policy, both cars on personal auto and a commercial policy for the truck. Plus umbrella policy and riders for guns and collectables that exceed policy limits.

THis is my philosophy on insurance. Get the highest uninsured motorist coverage available. In a catastrophic accident where you are not at fault, you cant rely on the other guy having good insurance, or any insurance at all. Insurance agents rarely push push high limit UM because the difference in premium is small and the risk the insurer assumes is huge. For example, 25/50 UM is around $120, while 1 million/ 1 million UM is around $290 for a 6 month policy. So for a little more than double the small premium, you get 20 times the coverage limits.

Here in Ontario, it seems $1200 +/- $100 is the going rate for insurance. My Mazda CX-5 (17,000 km / yr) is the most expensive (actually more than a BMW X-3 would have been) by about $100. The Porsche is about $1250 (7,000 km /year), the Ducati (7,000 km /yr) is about $1,100 along with the CTS (20,000 km / yr). All rated for driving to work as well as casual use. The Porsche will have a winter rebate after putting the coverage back on in spring. The cheap one is my '97 Triumph Trophy at $600/year, but it is more limited milage and no collision. It may be on the block to move way for the Boxster in the operating cost scheme of things.

An agreed value policy is typically for cars that might be worth more than the simple "year, model, miles" formula. Not sure why you'd need an agreed value policy for a Boxster where the value is easily calculated and market values generally agree with the depreciation formula.

I use insurance to protect my assets and for "worst case" scenarios, not to repair a $10K car. Therefore, I have $3M in liability and very high deductibles (which means that I pay out of pocket for what would be a typical fender bender).

And as San Rensho said, get as much uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage you can get. When my silver Boxster was totaled, the driver only had $15K (the Cali state minimum) in liability insurance and the cost of the power pole that she hit was $12K itself. Thus, she was underinsured and my insurance had to pick up the entire tab to replace my car.

Do you need regular appraisals for an "agreed value" car? My brother has a '69 Lotus that needs appraisals about every three years. It is now old enough it is worth more than he paid, but possibly not paid plus maintenance.

BTW, I've read the Miata was the inspiration for the Boxster, at least from the point of there being a market for a two seat roadster. The Lotus Elan from the 60's was the inspiration for the Miata.

I had my Auto policy with Amica for decades, but switched to Geico a few years ago. Cars on the policy are a 2011 Taurus Ltd. and my 2000 Boxster S. Coverage:

• Bodily Injury Liability $300K
• Property Damage Liability $100K
• Medical Payments $5K
• Uninsured Motorist Bodily Injury $300K
• Underinsured Motorist $300K
• Comprehensive $500 deductible
• Collision $1000 deductible
• Emergency Road Service
• No Rental Reimbursement on the Boxster
• $35/d $1050 max Rental Reimbursement on Taurus

Premium is $725 annually. It probably helps that I live in the middle of nowhere and both cars are designated for personal use.

I think it pays big time to be a retired person over 60 because in my case the insurance comes to $754.00 per year. When I put it into winter storage in November my company refunded $294.00 back to me since it doesn't need full coverage sitting in a heated warehouse for 6 months….so in the end it works out to around $460.00 for the six months it's on the road.

I use Hagertys for my 1975 914. There is no appraisal; however their web site has a feature that will tell you the values for concurs, good and fair condition for your make and year. I only had to submit a picture to verify the condition. No milage limits, car can only be used for pleasure-not to work and back. Lastly, they asked for proof that I have a daily driver.

How about showing proof of off-street enclosed parking? I keep winding up in living situations without garage space.

Not brought up; they probably assume that collectible cars are inside. I have heard from others that the garage picture was required. And maybe just to see whether the car would be damaged in the event of a mild earthquake.

I have been with Geico for years. I regularly check for better pricing, and they have yet to be beat.

Of course my premium is frighteningly high for a family that has zero accidents and zero tickets. But I think that is because I have 3 teenagers, and four vehicles.

5 cars, 2 teenagers and my boxster has the lowest premium of them all. I changed to Geico a year ago. Here in NJ., until a few years ago, only had 2-3 auto insurance companies to choice from. Free market system, not for auto insurance in NJ. Then they came back to make it competitive again. When I switched I was over $7k for 4 cars, now I'm down around $5k for 5 cars.
My boxster came in cheaper than the 2009 Xtera I traded for the Box.

I have stacked policies Home owners and 4 vehicles 300/500/300 $500 deductable the 4 cars with Erie are just under $2400 per year

I seem to recall mine being around $330/year with Metlife.
