Just made a big mistake!

I just drove a 2004 Carrera 4S for the first time. Have been looking at a change a clean 911 car around with only 28,000 miles. Looks new in and out. Great price. Wow does that thing scoot and handle. Still like my boxster but....

That is my dream car ... oh yeah ! Hope to have a Carrera 4S one day. I would give my right arm for that car ... no wait ... then I would have to drive an automatic ... no I need my right arm. Ok, I would give my next door neighbors dog's right toe nail. I guess I'm not getting one that cheap. Am I ?

I did make a nice score today on a 2004 Honda Civic for the wife to drive to work during the winter. One owner very clean got it $1600 under book. She is very happy, so I'm happy. OH ... and it is red to match the Boxster.

I looked very hard at a 2004 C4S Coupe up on the east coast, it was the dark Lapis Blue with a dove grey full leather interior, lowered suspension on RUF wheels, in pristine condition and imo heart breakingly beautiful.

Sounds like you may of found a good one, if it is on a dealer lot now is definitely the time to bargain..........

Isn't that the usual problem. To spend 32,000 on a 10 year old car is hard for most wives to wrap their minds around. Then if you have to put a little money into it after the purchase makes that an even more difficult sell.

Happy Wife

That is so true fullthrottle52. My wife of 25 years, on the other hand, has never raised too much of a stink when I have gone toy shopping. She says that she trusts my financial judgment and prefers that I spend my money and time on cars and motorcycles than in going out drinking, or gambling, etc. When I was looking to buy my Boxster, I did show her what the approximate sticker price was vs. what I was buying it for. Of course, it didn't hurt that we also traded her car in on her favorite car at about the same time.

I hear the whining every time I spend $$$ on my Boxster from the other half. My defense it is not like your Camry and does not drive like it either...

Loaded 2002 Camry $36500 new and my 2001 Box base $18500 used. I still have a lot of $$ to spend to catch up ....

Don't make the bigger mistake of thinking you can enhance your driving fun by buying it. The only superior part is the engine that will fit in your Boxster like it was made for it.

My wife couldn't understand why I needed three Porsches at one time ('93 RSA, '88 Turbo and '73 RS Tribute)...sold the Turbo and bought the Box S. Also had a Grand Cherokee as my DD.

Ahhh, life was better then (before the RE market crash)...

2002-2004 C4S is the best looking water-cooled Porsche so far imho. Nice side perk is you get the Turbo curves without the cost of maintaining a Turbo.
Downside: All wheel drive. Rear end starts to slide, it cuts power, all that nimble handling you've taken for granted in Boxster goes out the window. As long as you only drive in straight lines, in weather where snow clearance in a low-sitting car isn't too bad, it's a good 12 month workhorse car.
With depreciation baked in now, a low mileage car even at ~$30K is pretty compelling Porsche proposition relative to older air-cooled Porsches: fast, low maintenance with magazine cover styling. Basically you can actually drive it on anything but sunny days and you don't care about the mileage racking up. You get your cake and eat it too.

I caught the same bug. I was invited to drive new Porsche's around the track in NJ. When I was done while I was at the track I started looking for the newest Porsche I could afford. I found an 09 Boxster with low mileage but came off the high before I pulled the trigger. I love my 74 911 but newer performance was exciting. Bought an 03 Boxster. Much better financial choice.
