ebrake light test
Hi, 98 boxster s
I've removed the ebrake light switch is there any tests I can do to check the bulb on the dash is working and not blown or would just the bulb not working stop the roof opening. I won't be able to replace the switch until next week. Thanks for any help great forum |
Swap the ebrake bulb with another known working bulb to test the bulb itself (a few come on at start up so you'll which ones are candidates for the swap).
Bulb itself should not stop the top from operating. There are online hacks for working around the ebrake switch so you can use the top without having to pull the handbrake. This would also allow you to use the top while waiting to replace the switch. |
Can you not just check for continuity across the bulb and the switch with your multimeter?

thanks for replying,
I did test the switch with the buzzer on a multimeter, I'll replace the switch anyway, how can I get the roof to work. even when I first turn the key the bulb doesn't light up that's why I thought the bulb is blown I did put a wire across the plug still no light on the dash, is the brake switch a direct feed to the dash light, There is a miss fire on cylinder 6 I'd like to get into the engine compartment. please tell me how I can get the roof working or move it at least |
Just an update I found the problem the bulb was blown on the dash so the hand brake switch wires I put a bit of wire across so the light was on and i pulled the top catch down and pressed on the 2 contacts on the back pressed the button and the roof is working so I removed the part and re soldered the broken joint and that's the roof working as it should do.
Thanks for your help |
I guess as long as that makes sense to you it's all good.
