I love brake dust!
I really do...It is 73 today...washed and waxed the car and cleaned off the brake dust. I really enjoy busting up my knuckles trying to remove it...and guess what? In two days it will look like ass and I will have to do it again!
Is there anyway, I can buy different brake pads that make even more dust? I just can't get enough. |
I would try a "softer" pad.
Not sure of brands or anything. Probably a call to one of the Boxster parts specialists like 986online.com and a talk with one of the parts guys would result in a recommendation for a pad that would generate enough dust to suit you. Diving into a corner with a cloud of brake dust streaming from each wheel is certainly something to be admired and pursued. Keep us posted. |
There are some coatings that, when applied to wheels, supposedly enable the residue to wash off easier, never tried them. "Dustless" brake pads aren't the way to go, of that I'm sure!
More dust? Go carbon fiber, man!! |
Uncle Bob, That is a great looking car! I was going to order Arctic Silver, but I really wanted a light interior because of where I live. I had to go with Basalt Black for it to look right. That is a sharp looking car though!

Wax On, Wax Off
The best coating is a good coat of wax. This not only helps protect the wheels from the potentially corrosive effects of the brake dust, but also will make cleanup much eaiser (not to mention that this will also make your wheels look great!).
I would also recommend a good wheel cleaner (I use Meguair's Professional #36 Wheel cleaner) and soft brush. Quote:

I second the waxing of your wheels. REALLY keeps the dust from accumulating in the first place, and what does stick comes off easily with a hose and light washing. It's time for me to do it again.
High brake dust means softer pads and good stopping power. Don't forget that! |
regular wax? Never thought of that...I will try it!

But, sigh, you will only get about 20k miles from your rotors! which is a subject for another thread. Regards |
