Loud Clicking While Rolling

Well, when it rains it pours. Tonight as I was driving home I suddenly experienced a loud clicking noise that matches my rolling speed. It started soon after moving from a green light, no bumps, clutch dumps or anything silly occured. Just normal driving. As I accelerate the noise increases, under deceleration it decreases accordingly. It seems to be clutch related, as I can almost feel the clicking in the clutch. The engine starts and runs beautifully, the noise begins as soon as the car rolls, and is unrelated to revs as it is unchanged when revving stationary. Any ideas out there? The car is right around the corner from the Porsche dealer but I'm handy and don't want to get robbed blind at the stealership.

I've not had any clutch slipping, leaks of any kind, or check engine lights. The noise continues whether the car is under load or not. I coasted downhill in neutral with no throttle and the loud clicking continued. The clutch feels fine and grabs with no problem.

It certainly could be clutch related but before digging too deep it could be:

1) Foreign object wedged in your tyre treads.

2) Foreign object wedged in between your brake caliper and rotor.

3) Drive shaft loose or bearing faulty - also check rubber boots for tears which may give a clue.

4) Jack up car and rotate each wheel seperatly - it may become obvious.

It would also help to know year & model of your vehicle.....

the noise begins as soon as the car rolls, and is unrelated to revs as it is unchanged when revving stationary.

So does the car make the noise when the engine is running, but the car is not moving? And then, once you get moving, the noise increases in frequency as speed increases?

If it was only happening when you were moving, I'd say you have something in a tire or something jammed in a brake. If it's the brake, put the car in reverse and back up a bit. This should clear whatever it is.

i had this. turned out to be the e-brake line is held away from the rear tire by a simple holder and/or ziptie to the arm. since the previous tire installer used the crappy tire weights, as the tire went around it was hitting the line making a clicking noise.

as i sped up, it seemed to match the speed, as i slowed down it would slow down.

The e-brake "shoe" has fallen against the wheel is my guess too.

The car only makes noise while moving. When stationary it is silent. Push in the clutch it is silent as well. Hoping it's a wheel weight, as I just had new tires put on!!

I had this exact same problem! But more likely, its one of the CV joints.

Tony! That sounds EXACTLY like what I experienced last night!

Found the problem. A blue line connected to a rubber hose on the driver's side rear of the car had fallen and was laying directly on the axle. Put it back in place and zip tied it just in case. Thanks for all the feedback guys, I really appreciate it. Btw, anyone know what that line is called? It is light blue and runs along the frame rail.
