First Porsche - Just in Time
I was supposed to pick up my first Porsche - an '05 Boxster - today, but decided with a snow storm blowing in at about the time I would be traveling home it was not such a good idea. Something about brand new summer tires on the back and snow didn't reassure me. Plan B is tomorrow night, after the snow finishes up around noon and hopefully the roads dry up a bit with temperatures around freezing and the sun playing hide and seek. Doesn't sound like top down motoring though.
Current plans are to store it till March or snow, either an hour north of here in a heated facility, or in my garage. Depends on how much snow is in the area. My SO can't understand why I am purchasing now, but the deal seemed too good to pass up. So, a quick drive, some stabilizer and charger, then a 3-4 month sleep while I read the manual and dream of warmer weather drives. BTW, this has been a great group in my research. Nice. Nice. Nice...

Congratulations! I'm sure whoever sold it didn't want to store it so price was reduced. You might want to go for the heated storage option in case you find yourself wanting to sleep with it. ;)

Congrats, looks like a beauty. PLEASE note that driving on summer tires in low temperatures is not recommended...

I am well aware of the perils of summer tires in the cold. I bought an '05 RX-8 in '05 (which I sold a year ago last Friday, leading to the deal on the '05 Boxster 1 year to the day) that came with summer tires, and was absolutely useless in the cold. I also have two bikes ('97 Triumph Trophy & '10 Ducati Multistrada) that I have been known to ride like I'm perched on tiptoes just above freezing. Pick a dry window between storms, as warm as possible and get it home for the winter. Right now I'm checking the weather hourly, and it seems to be changing hourly:eek:

Awesome car, congrats! Smart to buy a convertible when the snow flies;) Here's hoping the sky clears:cheers:

Congrats!
I could not wait 3 to 4 months to drive my new baby. That would just kill me. |
Congrats son your new ride.

Congrats Larry - nice 987!
I would go with the garage option as you can always drive "Rain Man" style in the driveway when the winter sun shines! |
Picked mine up in February and it got like that about half way home. Not fun. The car sat in the garage until March. Enjoy the car It looks great. Welcome to the forum.

What is this "snow" and "cold" you all are talking about? Is it not 75 degrees everywhere?
