Wheel dollies
About to put the car into storage mode. I have a very tight space in my garage and was planning on painting the calipers and lugs and other such maintenance that would require the tires to be off the car. What would I be googling to find some sort of wheeled transport system so that I could move the car around without the tires on it? Is there such a thing or would I have to mod something?

Google "wheel dolly". There are two types as described below:
Mechanical Wheel Dolly - 1250 Lb. Capacity Vehicle Dollies - 2 Piece, 1500 Lb. Capacity |
Both of those appear to be the type that requires the tires to be on the vehicle. I'm looking for the type that would bolt or clamp onto the frame or somewhere else that would not require the tires to be on the vehicle.

These are portable but not mobile. You really want to pick up 3,000 lbs and then try to move it on an unstable lift? Good luck.

Wheel dollies
I have four of the Harbor Freight 1500 lb dollies. They work well but you need about four strong men to move the car around on a very smooth level floor. I built a winch system to pull it to and fro since my wife & I could not do it alone. Sold the third car and loaned the dollies out to a friend in need.

So it looks like I'll have to mod something. Sucks that I just quit my job where I had welders and fabricators at my disposable, for a desk job where they don't even know what steel-toed boots are. Stupid me. I should have thought of this last winter.
I'll come up with something. |
