Who replaces tops

I called a body shop and was told to look into upholstery shops. If I have to get the top replaced isn't an auto body shop the best bet? Any recommendations in Southern California?

try calling your local Porsche dealer's service dept. They will probably refer you to the shop that does their repairs.

Lot of choices

You are lucky to be in Southern California. You will have more choices than almost anyone else on this forum. Try PCA members in your area. If you don't already belong, you should consider it as getting pointed the right direction on just this issue could save you $$$ and will certainly hook you up with a quality job. They will have already figured this out long ago. Probably even have debates about which of two shops are the best.

You don't have your year included in your signature, but you probably know this would be a great time to go to a glass window if you haven't already.

Wish I had so many choices. Here in central Illinois, I am severly limited when it comes to this type of work.

I had my ATD top done at an upholstery shop. They would be the ones to do it.

You can also get a list of good installers from GAHH.

Over a dozen good installers in SoCal. What city do you live/work?

I'm up in apple valley. I started calling around and looks like there are several auto upholstery shops that do it. Seems like the going labor rate is about $500 plus the cost of the top. Anyone use the aftermarket EZ on tops with the glass window (going in a 2001)? Satisfied sith that product?

$500 for labor is a bargin in my opinion. I went with a Cabrioworld top with glass for a 2002S. So far I have been happy with it. Did the installation myself but would have gladly paid $500 for an install. Local dealer told me $5, 000 and a local top shop wanted $2, 400.

Raul's Auto Trim in Ontario near the airport did my GAHH glass top and it turned out nice.

I bought the ATD Top(same as GAHH) with glass on their eBay site. I paid $559 shipped and $500 in labor to install. Very happy!

be sure to see examples of their work first, and also to get a guarantee that they will adjust the top for you until satisfied.

My first Box had an aftermarket installed top and it NEVER looked exactly right.
