987 one touch top

I know the 987's in europe are one touch to put the top down.

Can the dealer program a US 987 for one touch?

Mrsparkle, you car can do it too! I don't know the exact process, but check your owner’s manual.

You need to be below 30 MPH including any head-wind. And I think you need to be in gear and moving forward.

I think it is best to still do it while stationary. Less wear & tear on a very expensive mechanism- IMHO.

The problem is that it doesn't have one-touch operation when you're NOT moving. It even stops and beeps in admonishment at you if you slow down too much when you're operating it while driving.

Really annoying--I ********************ed about this a while ago. :)

Thanks guys.

I've tried putting the top down a couple times while driving but like eslai has stated, it kept beeping at me.

bhduxbury 02-01-2006 02:37 PM

yes -- getting beeped at for dropping below 6 is very annoying.

0-5 = hold the switch down the whole time
6-30 = one-touch
31+ = no go

funny, if you one-touch and drop below 6 you get beeped at. but if you hold the switch and then get over 6 and let go, it beeps again. i _think_ (and this is the worst, if true) it will beep if you keep holding the switch on accelerating past 6 just for the fun of it. basically, you can't change speed zones without stopping the sequence and getting a beep. of course, since you are usually just getting going from a parking lot or garage (or coming in to one) when you switch the top up or down, switching between speed zones is almost inevitable. beep!

egads.

and why does the (bose) stereo briefly cut out -- i.e., go totally silent -- when you latch or delatch the roof? it even cuts out if i simply put my finger in near where the latch connects (you know, where the red clip goes).

add in the never-ending seat belt beeps (i have historically not liked to put on my belt until i am on the first street as getting there usually involves backing up or tight maneuvering and the attendant body rotations to successfully complete them) and this is one annoying car.

until you are situated, that is . . . .

I noticed the bose system goes into a different surround setting when the top is down. Wider surround and bass setup.

I wish i could get that setting with the top up.

eslai 02-01-2006 10:14 PM

Yeah, perfect description of the switch operation, bhduxbury. Very annoying.

As for why the bose cuts out when you unlatch the top, I guess it could be about the surround settings, but I get that audio cut-out and I have surround set to "off". I have no rational explanation for it. Just another of the many wierd quirks of the electronics in this car. They should get some japanese consultants or something. :)

BHDuxbury....Thanks for the post. I actually tried it and it worked great...I have been holding the button down.
