driver side wiper too long - rain x lattitude

bought some rain x lattitude wipers. I noticed the driver side wiper is wiping all the way to the edge and touching the rubber weatherstrip on the windshield.

is this normal? rain x recommended 22" and thats what I bought.

The car takes two different sizes of wiper blades. You may have purchased two of the longer size. When I purchased my Rain-X Latitudes, the store's computer gave me both sizes and part numbers.

Must be either a miss packed unit or made wrong, the correct size is a 22".

Sorry, my error. Both are 22". My wife's car was the one with two different sizes.

I never trust anything anymore from manufacturers, one size fit sell, no. I either measure mine our take them off and match it to the replacement so I know the fit is correct.

What wipers?

Not intending to hijack this thread, but... what wipers will work on the 986?

Stores around here usually carry Valeo or Bosch. The only type they recommend is with "skeleton" wiper arms.

jcb986 11-17-2013 03:06 PM

I have the Bosch.

Not trying to hijack this thread, but I recently replaced the wiper blades on my 2001 Boxster S. I almost bought a set of 22" Bosch blades from my local Advanced Auto but decided to see if I could find a deal for the Porsche factory blades.

Although the factory blades are Bosch there is a difference!

The factory blades are different from side to side! The passenger side blade is curved! The driver side blade has a black plastic thing on one side.

Search ebay for 996 628 901 08 and you'll see what I mean. From what I see on my Boxster, that curved blade on the passenger side really makes a difference.

I bought my blades on ebay from a seller named jdmpartsman714 for $31.95 for the pair. They arrived in a yellow Bosch retail box. I see several other sellers selling what appears to be the same thing for around the same price.

In my case this actually worked out cheaper than buying two of the generic Bosch blades at Advanced.

Hope this helps.

I'm bumping this thread, I purchased the Rain X wipers as well, one is a 21 and one a 22 according to their fit guide. The driver side wipes onto the rubber above the windshield. If that's the case, no 22" center mounted wiper will fit without it doing that. I only see a few people mention this though, and all say they have 21 or 22 inch blades. What the??? Or does no one else care about the rubber above the windshield??

I don’t think it’s a very common problem. ;)

Has anyone measured to see if the 22" has the mounting hole not exactly centered from end to end on the blades that fit properly. Maybe the Porsche specific blades are off set a little to ensure they don't scrape the rubber around the windshield.

I learned this from someone else's post here a while ago. If you still have your original Porsche wiper blades, you can get VW/Audi part number 895-955-429-A for just the rubber refill. For the passenger side, I believe you trim the length yourself. It's been a while since I've done it and I'm due for wipers again. If you go to a VW or Audi dealer they may have to order it since it's for an older model Audi or VW. You can order them online from Pelican here and other websites too.
