Repainting Front Hood and Fender Advice

I have a 1998 base Boxster in good condition, which recently had it's front bumper dented by someone with a trailer hitch. Although the damage is minor, the estimate to repair (from a Washington, DC area body shop well known for Porsche body work) is $1,700.

While in the shop, I was considering having the front hood repainted and fenders feathered to repair the chip damage over the past 15 years. The estimate for the additional work was an additional $1,700.

My questions are:

1. Is it worth the money to have the extra work done?
2. If yes, should I add a 3M clear bra to protect the new paint?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.
