AOS Beginning to Fail Question

Hi everyone:

Does anyone know if increased oil consumption is a precursor to the AOS failing.

I'm asking because my 01S consumed a quart of oil over the last 5000 miles between changes and I've never had to add oil before. There a no visible oil leaks. The engine looks bone dry.

Thanks

You would see that smoke. If AOS is failing, the vent pipe on top will have oil in it, or oil on it. Some oil makes it to the intake. If major failure, huge smoke. It doesn't take much oil to make a huge cloud. Oil in water?

No noticeable smoke and no oil in water. Familiar with the huge smoke situation. Had an AOS failure abiut 50K ago.

Try to remove the oil fill cap with the car idling, if it is difficult to remove, the AOS is on the way out.

Oil cap is easy to remove.

Many years ago I had to add a quart of oil. It was around the time the AOS failed. I can't remember if I added it before or after the AOS died. This was one of the two quarts I've added over the years. The second one was last week.

Maybe my 110K engine is just starting to burn oil.
