All good suggestions... and I'll leave it alone for now

ok, then, if you don't mind, i'd like to hijack for a bit.

here's the link to the dyi to install a cayman wart:

Bold Mod- Custom Sport Chrono Pod with Multi Gauge - 6speedonline.com Forums

doing some research, and harry's iphone lap timer *I think* can process Bluetooth video, obd2 and gps data.

so, get a used cayman wart and install a Bluetooth gps and hd webcam in it. get a Bluetooth obd2 reader and wire it all up. as soon as you get in your car, the app should be getting all the info it needs to work, all while sitting in your coat pocket (or console storage or wherever).

further, it looks like the harry's lap timer app has the ability to share data realtime with other devices. if we could find a way to share data with a plx multigauge (also installed in the cayman wart) then you could see your lap times, split times, lateral g's, etc., while driving. all in once package.

Now that's AWESOME!!

You forgot to detail the "mental preparations" required prior putting a hole of that size in a car like that. Any brain additives of-the-like required before the real hit?!

Impressive work (and ideas) all along btw

The Radium King 10-19-2013 01:58 PM

well, I looked on ebay and I can get a replacement dash cheap ...

I was hoping you'd chime in on this - I need someone who understands this stuff to make it work ... from what I can see so far, there are not a lot of small, Bluetooth/wifi hd cameras around (small enough to fit into a cayman sport chrono pod) which is odd given how damn small an iphone is ...

Nine8Six 10-19-2013 02:14 PM

yea plenty of those around here. You can get near ya as well

Also look up the GPS modules, 6-dof sensors, real-time clock, Bluetooth or wifi modules, etc This guy's webby has it all under one roof. Also the open source microcomputer (arduino) would be sufficient to bus the whole package together (I'm guessing, not sure with HD1080i tho). It's all matchbox size so that you are good to go.

This guy has it all shielded already. You just need to slam in your GPS and Wifi modules and you are uploading in minutes.
Arduino Based Camera

Sorry not a Bluetooth device ready but easy to 'make' them Comm using other modules (either BT or Wifi) in the design. Research on that open source microcomputer and you'll see that many have done it already.

The Radium King 10-19-2013 02:19 PM

well, that is the ticket. I was hoping to be able to just plug some stand-alone components together, but I have an amigo who builds helicopters that use all this stuff (his primary unit is actually called 'ardi') so i'll see what he can put together for me. would still have to work with the harry app to talk to the plx device, so will have to talk to those vendors as well ...

If you two needs any help just hit me mate

Once your design and product is out, get a web server on one of those superfast SoCal backbone and built a website (e.g. follow me fast DOT com). On the wart, add a "Click to Upload LIVE feed" button on the façade. The Wifi Cam feeds can easily be uploaded online on that same web server (by FTP protocol) using the iPhone data network.

I would be pleased to watch you guys having a track day LIVE from this end ;)

Hey, I got almost the same in my car :D

I think it would look super classy to have a small, tasteful, and intricate looking analog clock integrated into the dash (not on it ;) ).

Your first project should be to ditch the stock orange interior lights :D

evo-r 10-20-2013 07:39 PM

Got rid of the chrome trim with some quick 4D CF wrap... as you can see I still have it on my dash

Looks cool but it have this nasty levitation effect to it.

Can you please install a rubber seal/trim under it so it doesn't look as if it will fall off the dash on accel. Plenty of those in any size on eBay (small 1mm up to door seal/trims sizes)
